    Bank: Nat West
    Amount Reclaimed: 461
    Amount they paid: 441
    The story:
I used the template on this site to ask for record of all charges. About 3 weeks later, I received two huge envelopes with the last 6 years' bank statements (for which I was charged 5 pounds).

Once I worked my way through the statements, I worked out that they´d charged me around 461 over the years (which was actually less than I thought they'd charged me!).

Again, I used the template available on this site to ask for my money back. I received a letter very quickly from my branch, saying that they'd forwarded my "complaint" to their complaints team. About 4 weeks after that, I received a 2 page letter from Nat West, saying that they didn't accept that their charges were unfair, refer to terms, etc. etc. but in this instance they were prepared to offer me a one-off settlement of 441. Sign on the dotted line.

I signed on the dotted line and about a week later the money was in my account. Thanks Money Saving Expert! I was expecting another letter demanding that I repay all my overdraft (not gonna happen any time soon!), or that they wanted to close my account but not heard a dicky bird.:T

If you haven't already followed the advice on this website - well, what are you hanging about for? Give 'em hell! :rotfl:

received just over £400 (plus moneyclaim £50) from Gnatwest. I had to go to the moneyclaim form stage but cheque arrived a few days before deadline. All charges and interest. All told, about 20 minutes work.
thanks all who helped and provided good advice!
  • Bank: Nat West
    Amount Reclaimed: £658
    Amount they paid: £658

    The story:
Fortunately I had kept all my bank statements for the last 5/6 years.
Went through them spotting charges and outting them on an EXCEL spreadsheet.

Sent it and the first letter to request the refund.

Took them 4 weeks instead of 2, but they paid up! Got the usual two page letter as have others before me.

They were lucky though as I had just calculated that the statutory interset was another ~£45 and I was about to send another letter claiming that as well!

THANKS!! Now I can afford to get our roof looked at!
  • :T :j fantastic news/ i got an offer of £759 back from HSBC i'm gonna take it they took £1067 off me over 6 years.....it's better than nowt. THANKS MARTIN X
  • Alliance & Leicester
    claimed £25
    paid £25
    Time taken 2 weeks
I used the template letter when I went overdrawn to claim back the £25 overdraft fee. They paid it back as a gesture of good will and said that any future fees will still stand.
  • Bank Firstdirect
    amount claimed £1200
    amoun they paid £1000

Made offer after letter stating charges and interest - basically knocked the interest off and paid me the charges. Fair enough, they are a business after all!

Currently doing Alliance & Leicester for my OH, have had to take it as far as MoneyClaim - watch this space.

Also doing Lloyds TSB (who must surely be THE WORST culprits in Britain for astronomical charges!!) for a friend - watch this space

    Halifax
    amount claimed £1390
amount promised by them (due to be paid anyday) £1200

I was surprised by how quickly this all happened (luckily we didn't have to wait for the info from them as we have saved all statements for years).
Their initial offer was £700, OH told them that wasn't enough as we hadn't even added interest on, they pointed out that we'd only get the interest if we went to court, he said we'd happily go to court, they then upped the offer to £1200 with no quibble.
