    Amt received back £1750

My Story: after getting the data protection stuff back (twice!) I sent off my first letter by recorded delivery, to which I got no reply, so sent the second by Special Delivery. Yesterday 2 days before due to file at court I got an offer of £1205. This fell short of an amount I was willing to accept as settlement and so rang the telephone number on the letter, and negotiated the new amount of £1750 over the phone. Just actually waiting for the money to go into the account now (up to 14 days)
Thanks for the advice and site Martin, the money will go to pay off other debts built up because of charges.

Just wanted firstly to thank all the posters for their help.

I decided to try to reclaim bank charges, and followed the templates on this site for calculating interest and how to phrase the letters etc.

I sent the first letter, asking RBoS to refund £389 plus interest.

After the allotted time expired with no response, I sent another letter giving them one more chance, and informing them of my disappointment at receiving no reply, and assuring them I would have no hesitation in taking them all the road!

Again, no response. I rang my branch to tell them I was preparing my LBA, as I had sent 2 letters by Recorded Delivery, and both had been ignored. The girl informed me on the Friday 9th March, that RBoS had posted me a letter, which I should recieve by Monday 12th March.

When no letter appeared, I rang the branch again. They rang Customer Relations, and were told that the info given on 9th March re a letter being posted was wrong, and the only letter I should have received was posted on 28th Feb, telling me that RBoS had no intention of refunding any charges to me!
I told the girl at my branch that I had not received this letter, and asked would she ring Customer Relations and ask them to re-send it, so I had a copy , for my records.

I got in from work yesterday, and a letter from RBoS was waiting for me. I assumed it was a copy of my knock-back letter.

It was, in fact, an offer to pay me the full £389.

Weird, but Im not complaining. I have returned the acceptance slip, and am looking forward to my refund.

Again, many thanks to all who post advice on here, Im not a great writer, but I hope you get the jist of my story, and again, Thanks!!
    I don't know much, but I know I love you ....<3

    Charges £295
    Interest £61

    Received £295

    Hoorah.
They sent initial letter saying they were looking into my complaint and would take 21 days rather than the 14days stipulated in my letter.

Phoned them to discuss this delay. Told that there was a backlog as so much interest, and that more staff were now employed on this issue.

    Money credited to my account.

Letter received . Usual squit saying sorry you're unhappy, charges as specifications, one off goodwill gesture.

Still waiting for Abbey to cough up £150. About to send second letter off.

God knows how individuals can survive after Banks have taken £1000s.

    Claimed : £3,521
    Won: £2,993

Have hope all those claiming from HSBC - my first letter went out on the 13th Feb and got the standard reply 'looking into it', sent the send letter on the 27th Feb and got the standard letter would get back to me within the eight week period ie by the 12th April. Phoned and chased them a couple of times and was told that they were being dealt with in date order. Received an offer today the 22nd March. Couldn't afford to take them to Court as I am broke and behind with my loan payments to them, so £2,993 will do nicely than you very much. Money should be in my account in seven days.

After looking at my charges they have only refund the actual bank charges and not the returned DD or cheques etc. but I don't care I'm happy with that.

Thank you all very much for your help and expecially Martin.

Just to let everyone know that I today have received a letter from First Direct offering the full amount of my claim. They initially refused to refund my recall charges for failed direct debits- these made up over half my claim.
I challenged them with a LBA and today I won £3400!!!!:T
SO DON'T GIVE UP ESPECIALLY IF YOU WERE TOLD THE SAME-CHALLENGE THEM!
