EDIT: we posted at the same time lol.

Does anyone have an answer for this point?

A friend of mine has today received a settlement letter from the Halifax for approx £50 less than the amount of charges he is claiming. If he accepts this figure does he just forfeit the amount he paid to MCOL?

    Cheers.

When I have all of my statements do I have to go through all of them and find the charges myself. On HSBC statements the charges seem to change names and have loads of different abbreviations. Im not too sure what to claim for and what not to claim for can anyone help

    Thank you

    Yes you do.

Thanks to Rex_Mundi for the excerpt from his post below:

List Of Charges We Can Reclaim
The following is a list of Bank charges that we can and cannot claim for. Different banks may have different names for the same type of charge, if you are unsure about a charge, just ask in the board.

    CAN BE CLAIMED

    Account misuse fee
    Cheque return fee
    Card misuse fee
    Unarranged borrowing fee
    Unauthorised overdraft fee
    Unpaid DD fee
    Unpaid cheque fee
    Unpaid standing order fee
Late payment fee (credit cards, store cards, catalogues etc)
    Exceeding Authorised Overdraft Limit
    Exceeding Unauthorised Overdraft Limit
    Direct Debit/Standing Order/Cheque returned fee
    Irregular fee

    CANNOT BE CLAIMED

    Cash Machine Withdrawl Fees
    Account Service Charges
    Service Fee / Annual Fee
Charges related to foreign currency transactions and conversions.
Monthly account fees on certain type of accounts.

Different banks may have different names for some charges so anything you arent sure of ask on the forum or check exactly what the charge is for with your bank.

Hope this helps and good luck reclaiming :)

    Sole account £1350
    Joint account £1200

I got offered in writing the following (which they have credited my account) £750 on my joint account and offered £350 on my sole account, I declined this in writing and sent it back via recorded delivery. They have since closed my joint account (not told me i find out on the interent) and they have not taken the money back out of my sole account
Since then they have defended my case and I have filled in an court allocation form, Im just waiting for my court date.....

    Is this normal?
Im starting to get a little nervous now if it ends up me facing Lloyds TSB in court?

Is anyone else in this situation?

If only you could do the same thing with the lottery.

Thanks again for clarifying the point. My friend is thrilled to have got the charges back (even though I had to push him initially to do it).

Thanks! If they offer in the next few days i will accept and tell them to pay the £120 and forget the interest, if not i shall take them all the way! I did try calling them a few times, and they promised me each time they would get someone to call me back later that day to discuss, but i heard nothing so their fault really!!!

Well that was a bit nasty of them and you have grounds for complaint to the Financial Ombudsman for the closure of your account. The banks can be made to pay compensation, currently at £200 from media reports on the subject so I would definitely do this.

Hang on in there for the court and dont worry. The closure of the account has bound to have thrown you a bit but it will just be the same process as usual otherwise and you will get the remainder of your money.

Please read this post on a court appearance on a case against Barclays, it is reassuring and top thanks to OP showmethemoney! for her post:

If their charges took you overdrawn then yes. When I have had a single charge refunded in this manner on odd occasions the interest has been refunded also.

    If not then no.

    hope that helps :)

You must give them the full 40 days to reply. They are allowed this time under the act.

    good luck :)
