    Hi Everyone
As I am new to this forum, I am not sure if this is the right way to go about posting a note.
Not sure if anyone can help, but can I claim for bankcharges on a building society account?

    Thanks
    Soo Bear

Yes you can, have a read of Martin's article and the Reclaim Help Thread which is linked in my signature.
  • Please can someone help.
I sent the first templated letter to Lloyds tsb with a cheque for £10.00. I received a letter in return saying they had registered my complaint and would get back to me within 40 days. The forty days are up and they have sent me another letter saying due to unforseen circumstances they will need another 40 days to proceed. Are they stalling and what do i do next

My question is do I now stop the court proceedings ? or wait untill I have the cash in my hands ?

Also at the bottom of the letter it said that 'HSBC also reasonably requires your conformation that you will treat this payment as confidential !! That really made me laugh. Will be raising a glass tonight to MR HSBC :rotfl:

Will post on the sucess board when I have the money, but in the mean time huge thanks to all who helped especially Edinburghlass and rex x:T

I would wait until you have the cheque or the money in your account then let MCOL by email on phone them.

You're more than welcome redruby and can I just take this opportunity to say that Rex had a family bereavement coupled with a move and loss of internet access and I hope he will be back with us soon.

Meantime I'm happy to welcome nickmack onboard as another Board Guide.

  • just rec'd reply from citicards. had sent them first letter asking for refund of charges. They are saying that there have been 12 court cases involving citi where they have successfully argued the fairness of their policy and charges and all claims have been dismissed !!! I am about to send my LBA but wonder if anyone knows anything about these court cases before I go any further?

    Hi All,
I am really annoyed I just wrote out a big speal and pressed post and it asked me to sign in loosing what I had written

So here goes again! basically I used the BBC website to get my letter for writing to the banks to claim my money back as I didn't know about this great site, and I sent an estimated charges letter as I only had 28 statements from 05-07 and some from 03.

I hate the BBC website's reccomendation of estimating charges with a passion as your list of charges, dates and descriptions will form part of your defence should this reach court or even before hand as the bank will most certainly check your claim and contest the amount you claim if you can't back it up.

I actually wrote in December for my charges full statements list but they never replied and so I didn't want to waste anymore time.

I'd go back to the bank now and say you want the list/statements and will report to the Information Commission if they don't provide it quickly.

The bank received the letter on the 21st Feb. and had not replied until yesterday the last day in the 14 day window I had given them!!!

It basically says that they are investigating and will give a full response as soon as they have completed.

This is where the estimating falls down as they could now come back and say sorry but your claim doesn't agree with our records.

So my question was should I take this as unsatisfactory (because it is, VERY) and carry on with filling a court claim or should I wait until they come back to me?

And if I do proceed with the moneyclaim what address do I use for them? My local branch, the service quality team as on this letter pr the head office address?

    Thanks Lizz :D

If you proceed with MCOL you need to use the banks registered address. It would help if you can let us know which bank you are with as there might be a phone number or department that can get your copy statements quickly.

I have already got the last six years statements, do I need to still ask the Building Society for copies, or should I just go ahead and write regarding the claim?
Sorry but I am rather ignorant of financial matters, and want to ensure that I get it right.

    Thanks

If you have all the information you require to work out your charges, you don't need to request duplicates from the bank.

For that amount of money, I would certainly wait and get it right. Have a look through the HSBC thread and see if there is a phone number or maybe you can get this information online? Sorry I'm not sure if you can or not.

Ive tried to claim £45 from morgan stanley, they have offered me half this amount .On principle I was going to reject this offer then on checking my default charges I realised that the charges I claimed are for 2001.Think I will accept their offer
