Have to say a huge thank you to MSE and Martin - :money: - sent the template letters off to the Halifax, followed the procedure. Just took a call from the halifax, was claiming in total £1291.00 off two different accounts. Just settled at £1150.00 - very very chuffed. :T

  • Just to let you all know that i settled with woolwich bank for £505 yesterday!!! Yipee!! Here is my time line-

19/02/07 Phoned woolwich, requested statements. Told will arrive 7-10 days.
21/02/07 Received standard letter of complaint
02/03/07 Phoned Woolwich, said where are my statements? Told I would receive them by 19/03 plus refund offer
14/03/07 Received list of charges totaling £674 plus offer of £505.
I was going to say no, but on closer inspection realised that none of the refunds I had received over the years(when i have phoned up when I thought them unfair and they refunded them) were not on list of charges. did some sums and realised that offer of £505 was exactly what I should have minus charges already refunded.!
    15/03/07 Accepted offer!
Just waiting for money to go into account, have been told 7-10 days.
Wish the Halifax was as easy as this one!!!!!
Thankyou to everybody and this site!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Bank Barclays
    Claimed £2495.00
    Offered and accepted £1985.00

Sent cheque statements received within two weeks.
    Offer came within three weeks.

Very happy with outcome, okay its not the full amount but feel we do owe the bank something.

    Hello All,

Apologies if there has already been an answer to this...although ive searched for what feels like hours and cant find one! (not too hot on these baords just yet!)
I have been offered a good settlemnt fee from HSBC which I agreed to take (approx 90% of original claim) however, after they wrote and said it would be credited to my bank within 7 working days IT HASNT. Ive signed to agree this is settlement of the matter - but they havent paid up and i'm wondering where I stand????

    PLEASE HELP x

    Hi!

I had this with the Halifax. I signed their form which said 7-10 days and 2 weeks later still nothing. I rang them up to ask where my money was and was told that they had a pile of acceptance forms to get through and they only did so many a day because they were so busy. They agreed to get mine out of the pile and do it straight away and when I check the next day, it was in my bank.

Give them a call to push them along a little and they should sort it out for you :D

There are a few things you can do.
    1) Write and threaten them with court action
    2) Ring up and remind them and give them a further 7 days with threat of court action

Both of which require some time to process.

Or - my personal view - 3) I would visit the local branch and ask to speak to a manager. Show them the letter and say that it requires them to credit my account my account immediately. You can do this today, the banks are still open :)

hope one of those helps for you and good luck :)

Firstly please dont worry about the awaited OFT announcement. Indications from various sources say that it will have no effect on claiming for the full amount. See the OFT thread here for some further information:

As to their delay of 8 weeks, ignore it and proceed with your own timescale. Others have done so and been successful and I wish you luck :)

Thank you for your advice, Twinkly, I really appreciate it. :T

The Story: Sent all the letters pretty much as MSE has set out, got the standard replies saying that A+L were not doing anything wrong and the charges were fair, they said the recent changes to Credit card charges were different to bank charges. Went to Moneyclaim Direct and they paid up in a week!
I do think they are going to close my account however, but had umbrella account set up.

ive now got my overdraft under control but between me finding out i had been charged these huge fees for going over and trying to talk to them about it then paying money in to fix it and then writing to reclaim the charges... they've charged me again, for a period i wasnt aware of... another £126...

    my questions are:

im assuming i can reclaim for these extra charges even though i have already written to them about the first set?

these new charges dont actually come out of my account until the 30th March.. can i still send a reclaim letter now? even though they havent taken the charges yet?

or should i be rewording the letter to try and get them not to take the charges in the first place!

    thanks all!!
