Halifax Account Number 1 Claimed £1301, paid £1250
Halifax Account Number 2 Claimed £317, paid £317

Wrote to the Halifax on the 26th February for both accounts. Paid out Account 2 with no problem. Had a letter yesterday offering me £1078 for account 1. Telephoned Halifax today and rejected their 'goodwill gesture' and they came back and offered me £1250.

Thank you all so much for your help and support, over the last few weeks have claimed back £200 from Capital One, £80 from Barclaycard and £1567 from Halifax.

    Big hugs to Martin.

ANYONE ANY ADVICE FOR ME;- had a FIRST DIRECT account when I was working 5yrs ago and then got overdrawn etc etc anyway when i was on benefits they threatened me with court but sent it to a debt collecting agency and now i pay it at the door every month since. I realized a few weeks ago that this was probably due to overcharges etc and have told the bloke today that I have sent a leter to F Direct to claim it all back £800+interest[my card from bloke still owes £216.00}and that I am not paying him until I hear from FD. He says that if and when I hear I will still have to pay him the £216 I owe surely the rest of what I owe would be cancelled out or is this correct. any advice would be welcomed.

Put it in writing to the debt collection agency that the account is in dispute stating your claim amount. The bank *should* put the account on hold with them whilst claim is in process as they know they will have to refund some charges but I dont know if they will actually do that. To keep yourself out of trouble you may have to continue paying the agency until it is sorted.

Its likely that any refund will be applied first to anything outstanding on the loan and the balance paid to you.

    Good luck :)

    Hi,
I have a problem. 15 days ago I started small claims court proceedings against the Natwest Bank for £4,506.00. Their time is up and they haven't responded. What should I expect? What should I do? Should I now call the bank? If so, what should I say?
    Thanks for the time

Don't call them, it's in the court procedure now.

Have they even acknowledged the claim?

Hi. No, they have not aknowledged the claim - or at least it doesn't say so on the MCOL claim page.
  • Bank: NatWest
    Claimed: £1588.78 plus interest
    Offered: £1588.78

    Thankyou forum people!

I sent a letter to NatWest, which was ignored, then I sent the second letter threatening court action.

Today I received a letter (dated last week) which said all fees are fair, blah, blah, blah, you signed the terms and conditions, blah, blah, all fair and above board.

However the second page said that on this account they were willing to make a goodwill gesture of the full amount!

Now I just have to wait for it to go into my account!!!

    CAN ANYONE HELP.

Sent my first letter asking for money back, they then sent letter acknowleding and where looking into it. After 14 days sent the second letter, (threatening court), 7 days up yesterday. Got letter today saying they were still looking into it and will reply by 10th April. What should I do? My next step it MoneyClaim. Should I send a letter saying it is not acceptable and will be applying to court next week, or should I cut to the chase and go straight to money claim. Can anyone advise please.

The general advice is to stick to your timescales. You'll be hanging around for ever otherwise!

  • Hi, i'm currently follwing the step by step approach, the last letter i sent to Halifax was asking for my unlawful charges back with interest, giving them 14 days to reply. They have replied saying the complaint handing rules regulated by the FSA gives them 8 weeks to investigate. Is this correct and do i wait, giving the banks more time to find a way out of this nightmare, or do i send the next letter giving them 7 days or court.

    Thanks, Tony.
