Reclaimed Bank Charges SUCCESS stories

I am about to start the process of reclaiming my bank charges but have a few worries so would be grateful for some advice!
1. I have a small overdraft at the mo of about £300 (only given to me as I had £300 of charges pending and no way of paying them) - this should be more than covered if I get a pay out though so does this matter?
2. I have a loan of nearly £8000 with Lloyds - again this was given to me as I was in difficulties and was to pay off a Lloyds credit card and overdraft, both of which were made far worse by charges I might add!! Could they demand repayment of this as there is no way I could do this.
3. Are they likely to close my account - my credit rating is so bad i don't think I could get another account, although me and my partner have a joint basic cashcard account with Barclays which I think(?) I could have my salary paid into.
4. I am worried they will say I don't have a leg to stand on due to my own terrible management of the account over the past couple of years. I have got deeper and deeper into a mess with my account due to falling pregnant unexpectedly and not being entitled to maternity pay. I do however think the bank made a bad situation worse as it turned into a vicious cycle of missed direct debits/charges taken/no money for the next attempt for the direct debit - the usual story! Feel a bit guilty claiming and am worried they will say its my own fault!0 -
Hi
I claimed for £1015 and they have offered me £678. They have said they are not willing to review the debit interest incurred on the account. Has anyone else had the same experience? Is it worth trying to claim the interest?
You can't claim for debit interest on normal overspending on your account. You could claim this interest if the charges alone caused your account to go overdrawn. Please read the post about interest in the Reclaim Help Thread, link in my signature.0 -
Nadine, your story emphasises the point that banks have contributed to peoples mysery and only made matters worse. I hope the banks suffer because of it. Don't feel guilty about mismanagement of your account and don't listen to the odd smug bod around here going on about the rest of us getting into difficulty. Banks used to be an alternative to putting your money under a mattress ie a piggy bank but they've created new products and parasited off us all - our wages go directly into their coffers to do with as they please. I don't know anyone who wantonly mismanages a bank account. Life happens to us all and ups and downs of finances are inevitable.0

Brilliant! :j
Bank- Smile
Asked for- £290.40
Got- £290.40
I had actually closed this account last autumn as I hated the charges they applied on a daily basis. I decided to try to claim and downloaded the template letter to request my statements (they returned my cheque and said they didn't charge for this service). When these arrived I sent off the template letter (with interest - well, in for a penny in for a pound!!) I received a letter within 10 days from Smile to aknowledge my request. Another two weeks and a cheque for the full amount arrived on the doorstep, just in time for ISA deadline. Thanks MSE :money:
PS Bank of Scotland did cash my cheque and I still haven't heard back from them after receiving the old 'we are dealing with your request letter'- will keep you posted0 -

I am currently claiming £1,760 from Barclays bank and have wrote off to them asking politely for my money back. They have wrote to me claiming they are looking into it and will take up to four weeks to get back to me.
Now I have heard this is happening now and is this the Banks stalling for time with the new rulling coming out at the end of March?
Has anyone else had this and what happened?
Should I send the court action letter??
There are posts similair to yours all over the site and the advice remains the same. Banks are delaying partly because they are inundated with claims like this but some do try and stall you. However, stick to the deadlines as laid out in the templates and carry on with your claim as per usual and good luck0 -
Bank: Nationwide
Amount Claimed: £854
Amount Received: £854
Went through the first and second letter process, eventually had to go to MOL, papers were served on 21th Feb, checked my account on the 7th March and found there was a correction of £600 on my account.
Then to my astonishment on the 9th a mysterious person had credited my account with £254 in cash I wonder who that was:rolleyes:
Martin Lewis you are an angel sent from above:A :money: :A
Thankyou:kisses:0 -
Hi all
i have received my statements from abbey and had my carer help me to carry out the interest calculations on this site but i can not find if i can claim back 'cleared transaction fee' charges on any of the pages (although i am sure itr will be here somewhere already)
i would be grateful if someone could let me know
thanks!0 -
I sent the first letter demanding my penalty fees (they called it commision fees!). I had a reply stating they hope I would have confidence in them again and it would be look into urgently and a customer service chap would phone me within 7 days. That letter was written on the 5th march. So if I havent heard by the 12th march, shall I ring them or send a letter threatening legal action?. They owe me £105.06 (will have to work out latest interest).0

Edinburghlass,
Re. my previous posting, in your opinion do you think that I can reclaim the 'Low Balance Auto Charge' as I can never remember being advised that I had to have a certain amount of money in my account? I have been on Coventry BS website and it does state the charge on their T & C's when you make a withdrawal when your balance is under £100 on this type of account. But surely it doesn't cost them anything when you withdraw money? We have had accounts with them for over 20 years and back when it was opened you did it over the counter with no terms & conditions given to you and it was the only account that you could set up direct debits from.
Hopefully you can help as you appear the person to ask??!!0
