Reclaimed Bank Charges SUCCESS stories

Bank: Halifax
Amount Reclaimed: £1166
Amount Paying: £900
The Story:
Took 1st letter into local branch by hand in December, after having no response I phoned them and they denied any knowledge of my letter. I asked for the statements on the phone, which I received in February (they charged me £5 for them) - 57 pages, sent in about 20 envelopes.
Took second letter in by hand and got them to sign 2 copies, one for me and one for them, on February 15th. They phoned me on March 9th and offered me £900. Due to money being tight I accepted the offer and received a letter on the 10th to confirm acceptance and I sent it back the same day. I should receive the money within 14 days.
I'm still shocked that they gave in so easily!
Big thanks to Martin and this site, it will help me solve a lot of problems.0 -
Got to 1 week before court hearing then received a letter with a cheque for nearly £1900!!!
BoS sent me standard responses to all my preliminary letters. I carried on ignoring the letters. Filed summary Cause, they didn't respond to the Court. Then 1 week before court hearing a cheque arrived with all interest court costs and charges.
If you are sitting reading this and thinking about it all I can say is
GO FOR IT!!!
It's not that hard and the banks do buckle and give in!! You'll get plenty of help on this Board if you are stuck.0 -
Halifax
Reclaimed £500.89 (included interest)
Received £500.89
We got as far as the 3rd stage, we had written to the bank asking for the charges to be repaid to us as we thought they were unlawful:T etc. Last week we rang them because they had added another £28 in charges to our account and took a further £24 interest but we had received no letter about this. My husband told them he was disgusted with their service and that we were going to change banks, which the Halifax know is true because we're in the process of having everything transferred to our new account with Alliance and Leicester. Within 24hrs the £500.89 was debited to our account.0 -

As a complete newbie I read through some of the success stories which gave me the courage to go after my bank charges even though I had just entered into a DMP with the bank. I sent the letter (from the BBC website) and within 6 working days had the following refunded. It only took the first letter to get the refund which will be offset against my DMP with them.
£2,061 claiming over 6 year period
£1,812 refunded :T0 -
I am also with Halifax and am due to send second letter to them tomorrow. Within a week of sending the first letter I received a letter back from them stating that a copy of my statements and letter have been forwarded to the customer relations dept and I should hear from them in due course but up to now Ive heard nothing!!
How much are they charging for using your bank? I havent been charged anything up to now but thats not to say i wont be charged and (for the first time ever) Id like to be prepared!!0 -

Hi ,i have still not started any proceedings with the halifax ,at first i have opened a parachute acc.with natwest but just a basic acc. incase i need it i have also applied for a citibank plus acc. as this comes with card and cheque book so i am led to believe ,but i have my doubts about citibank as i have read that u can pay cheques into Lloyds i have a credit card with them that i turned over to a debt management company so i have a payplan on my acc with halifax a standing order actually it is for quite a few credit cards together,so i was thinking if i got a citi acc. could they take money from my acc. to pay more off my credit card with Lloyds .any advice wud be helpful:eek:0 -
I am only on the first stages of claiming my charges back from both the TSB and Halifax. I have sent the first letter to both banks four weeks ago, I have just recieved a letter from the TSB informing me that my previous statements will arrive with in the next five days.:rotfl: However the halifax have wrote back and i quote
"Thank you for your letter requesting specific information for the above account. Please find enclosed statements for the dates specified" No statements enclosed????
If you requested information relating to manual intervention on your account, I regret that the HBOS plc is under no statutory obligation to record this information and therefore, I am unable to assist further with your request.
There is no telephone number for me to ring just the 24 hour banking line.
Help I am at a loss of where to go to next or what to say/write next. Has anybody else had a letter like this, if so, how did you get around it??
Thank You

With all the success stories of people challenging the banks i thought it only right to make a claim. I already had 4 years worth of statements as i'm self employed. I sent A&L copies along with a covering letter. After a week i received the coustomary reply from the bank. So i went through money claim on line paid my £120 fee and waited. Two weeks later yesterday i received a letter from A&L attached to a cheque for £4903,50p. Our old antiquated banking system favours only the banks. If the technology is there to debit my account each time i use my debit card then why can't the same apply whenever i deposit a cheque instead of having to wait 4-5 days which in the meantime i've been charged again. Considering that we can send people to the moon and back quicker than it takes a cheque clear the whole banking system is a complete nonsense.0
