Amount paid: £1012.00 which includes the interest.

    Story
Sent first letter, had reply back stating they were looking into my 'complaint' but it would take them a few weeks. Stuck to my timescale, sent 2nd letter threatening court. Just 2 days before court procedings due to commence got letter stating usual that they thought their terms & conditions were fair, they couldn't agree with my complaint, blah,blah,blah.... but as a goodwill gesture were willing to pay me £960.00 plus interest. Received cheque today.Whole process took about 2 months. So thats now Natwest(£360.00), Halifax
(£1800.00) & BM. 2 Cap 1 accounts. 1 gone to court, 1 due to go to court. Bring it on..... Thanks again to Edinburgh Lass & co for all help, advise & encouragement.

Techspec and Edinburgh, thank you for clarifying it all. Can't wait to hear what will happen after the hearing.

I have asked questions for help of this forum as I seem to be treated different to every one else in reclaiming bank charges.
Im really dissapointed that no one has been able to advise me on my problem and I have now just received a one penny cheque from the Nationwide.
I dont even know what this cheque is for but I m not going to bother carrying on as I feel when it comes to the crunch I will not get any support off any one.

Hang on, before you get too upset could you remind us of the problem??
    So far:-

HSBC £2515 incl int claimes, settled on £1998:j

Abbey - £2995 claimed, offered £1098, accepted as part payment and proceed to next stage, response not satisfactory so currently with Ombudsman:confused:

    Cap 1 - settled on charge difference:j

Barclaycard - settled on charge difference:j

MBNA - 1 account settled in full, £993:beer:
    - 2nd account settled on difference:T

HSBC Visa - no charges amazingly!!:rotfl:

Household Bank Visa - settled on charge difference:T

ACE catalogue - settled in full after 1 letter!!!
  • Hi

New to reclaiming but following the advice on here and so far the first 14Months of statemewnts just received from Abbey, now waiting on the one to be recovered from the archives. These 14 months have totalled over £4000 in charges, dread to think what the others will net but should I go for these in separate claims as this is going to be well over the £5000 threshold?

    All advice gratefully received

    Hi all,
My partner and I are about to take on Lloyds TSB (account + credit card) Halifax (2x accounts + 3 credit cards) Cap 1 credit card, Alliance & Leicester Credit Card and Marbles credit card(HFC Bank) Will keep you posted with any successes.

The help we need is in relation to the last one, HFC. This particular credit card had a £1000 limit. Anyway, to cut a long story short...got made redundant and ended up maxing out all cards while trying to make ends meet. My problem is this: HFC kept on piling on the charges until the amount owed reached around £1700. They then CCJ'd me with the total coming out with costs at £2079!!. Can I still try and get the charges applied to the account refunded? and does anyone know if you can defend a CCJ application in these circumstances....ie dispute the amount owed due to the addition of unlawful charges? I know its too late for me to defend the CCJ but for other people in a similar situation facing a CCJ I thought perhaps that the banks might back down if faced with revealing their true costs?! Any insight anyone has would be greatfully appreciated!!!

Special thanks to Martin et all for the great site!!
  • just had the standard 8 week letter from halifax, i was unsure wether to start the process or not, but was encouraged by the 2 most rude people in my life who were on the other end of the phone, who have no concern that my charges are paying for their wages and bonuses, good luck to evryone

    Bank: HSBC
    Amount Reclaimed: £729
    Amount they paid: £649
The story: The bank statements arrived in two big bundles on the same day only a few days asking for them. After sending the initial "give us our money back" letter, we received one back saying basically "we're looking in to it".
About 2 weeks later (just about the time we were ready to send the "we're taking you to court" letter), we received another letter from HSBC offering us just under what we were claiming. Of course, they were not taking responsibility and would win if we did take it to court (paraphrasing only slightly there), but £649 is a lot of money to us, so we signed the form and sent it straight back, and within a week had the money in our account!

    :money:

  • :money:

    Bank: First Direct
Amount Claimed: £1,484.23 includes OD fees, Excess OD fees (whatever they are) & Interest Charged (Perhaps a bit cheeky)
    Amount Offered: £1,170.00 :j

Just sent one letter with a detailed spreadsheet and today they offered the above. which we are going to accept.
Can't see the correlation between the amount claimed and the amount offered though. I think they are a bit like the Banker in "Deal or No Deal" offering just enough to make it worthwhile taking rather that going any further.

Never the less we are very happy with the result it will go towards our escape fund. Thank you!!!!
