Reclaimed Bank Charges SUCCESS stories

Hi folks, I've been helping a few friends out reclaiming their bank charges (as I’m such a whinger that when I worked out how much I’d paid in bank charges in the 4 yrs I’ve had my Natwest account-£930-i also realised that I’d got every single charge back from moaning & then some-I actually owe the Natwest £60! Shush don't tell!), so as I’ve never been 1 to not jump on the old proverbial band wagon I’ve successfully reclaimed my other halves charges from the Halifax, (+ the Yorkshire bank are just about to cave in on just under £2000-i'll post again when it does!) I’m now being a loyal (& sad) friend & reclaiming theirs!
Anyway enough rambling..........
Bank - Royal bank of Scotland
Amount claimed - £4121 (Inc statutory interest!)
Amount received - £3989
Time taken....... (Wait for it) 6 DAYS from putting my magnificent letter in the post box (1st class) to the funds being made available into her current account! I've never seen anything like it. (Don't get too excited folks-another friend I’ve helped with RBS has to go to court-they've just defended their case, although I’m not quite sure what the defence is? & better still, she's as timid as a mouse, so it looks like I’ll be impersonating her on the big day!)
Anyway, keep going you clever people. (I'll just keep getting pished with all the vodka they're buying me as a thank-you!)
& THANKS, AS ALWAYS-TO MARTIN-THE KING OF WHINGERS! ;-) FOR MAKING THIS POSSIBLE, (although I know regret moaning so much & I’d of had a grand spends!)

Bank: HSBC
Amount Reclaimed: £531.70 (457.50 + Interest)
Amount they Agreed to Pay: £457.50
Sent the initial letter on 31 January and received an acknowledgement letter within a couple of weeks. Decided to leave it another couple of weeks to see if they posted no offer. On the 14th day after the acknowledgement I phoned Customer Service Centre and was told that their timescale to process these claims was 8 weeks. I didn't argue with them, I just put the phone down printed off the letter threatening court action and posted it the next day. 5 days later (yesterday) I received a letter offering me the full amount of charges, less the interest.
Decided to accept this and I will be sending off the acceptance form later today.
Thanks to everybody who contributed to this site that helped spur me on to send off the letters in the first place, and especially to Martin for setting this site up and helping people fight back against the big corporations.
Thanks.

Hi,we Too Are Claiming Charges Back From Scabby National,we Too Have Had All Of The Time Wasting Letters,we Have Just Recived An Offer Of Goodwill Which We Accepted In Part Payment Only,i Faxed Them A Letter Back Stating That My Idea Of An Offer Of Goodwill Is Full Repayment Of All Of The Charges They Have Taken From Us,the Court Fee (£120)and Perhaps A Little Something On Top For All The Grief They Have Caused Us (not Holding Our Breath).we Are Now Just Awaiting A Call From One Of Their Smarmy Patronising Negotiators Tellin Us How They Would Like To Spare Us The Trauma Of Going To Court And How We Should Be Prepared To Crawl Naked Over Broken Glass To Accept The Derisory Offer They Have Made.
You Will Proably Have To Take The Mcol Route But Draw Your Inspiration From This Website, don't Buckle, don't Bend You Will Win.......good Luck0 -
Bank : First Direct
Amount Claimed: £515
Amount Paid: £515
And they waived a charge which was on my latest account without me asking them to do it. Cheers martin and all the guys who have pioneered this consumer fightback.0 -
BANK - First Direct
AMOUNT CLAIMED - £910.74 (£783.74) with interest
AMOUNT RECIEVED - £576
I am very very pleased with this - although i would have loved to have got the lot. I didnt write back to the bank as i had an overdraught and didnt want them to terminate my account. I had been refunded £52 on a previous occasion ( when i called to complain) and i did include £75 recall fees and they also said i had duplicated one amount of £25 in one day (which i hadnt - they had charged me twice in one day!) - so the amended fee was 783.74. Would love to have gotten that but didnt feel i was in a position to push it.
MANY MANY THANKS MARTIN - YOU ARE DOING A FINE JOB. :T0 -

Flip77 wrote:Hi, please can someone tell me whether the 40 days that you give the bank in the first letter is 40 working days or just 40 days?
My bank (Lloyds) have replied saying it was 4 weeks since my letter (Step 1) and it will take a further 4 weeks 'atleast' before they give me the list of default charges.
Do they always take this long or are they trying to drag it out until the OFT ruling?
Hi Flip77,
It's 40 calender days not working days (see f.a.q on information commission's website)...0 -
Bank: First Direct
Amount Reclaimed: £991
Amount they paid: £991
The story: I wrote in to get details of the charges I had paid over past 6 years. They sent me statements for free. I added up the charges and sent in the template letter. They wrote back offering the amount I claimed minus a charge that had been refunded, which I had missed. So they did refund all of the charges that I paud for the past 6 years. In all it took about a month. They paid the refund directly into my First Direct current account.
Thank you very much Martin, am now going to make sure I don't go overdrawn again!0
