    Bank Halifax

    Amount asked for £120
    Amount Paid £120

After about 4 weeks of sending the original letter off then sending another one only 5 days ago saying if the have not responded within 7 days i will be issuing court procedings, got a letter today saying they will refund the whole amount as a goodwill gesture

Thanks everyone for all the advice
  • Bank: MBNA (White Room/VIP card)
Amount asked for: £316.96 (includes interest)
    Amount Paid: £316.96

I went after MBNA after my initial success with HSBC. They sent me the standard we'll look into it letter. They were supposed to reply by Feb. 28th but by yesterday (March 2nd), I'd heard nothing so I sent off the second letter. This morning, I received a full settlement (including interest). They have implied they are going to close my account so I shall be calling Monday to have words...

  • Bank: Royal Bank of Scotland
    Amount claimed: £592.00 + £49.53 interest
    Amount paid: £592.00

I wrote to RBS at the end of last week requesting my charges to be repaid (plus interest), and received a reply this morning - within a week! - offering the original amount as "a gesture of goodwill and without admitting liability".

I think their offer is fair enough, considering I have been overdrawn for the past 6 years (student!) and wouldn't have earned any interest on my money anyway...

Thanks to Martin and all moneysavers for giving me the confidence to ask!

    Bank: HSBC
Amount Reclaimed: £500 (I did not request any interest)
    Amount they paid: £500
    The story:
After one letter I sent on 28 January. I decided to give them some extra time after they sent me an acknowledgement letter on 7 February, though I was all ready to write another threatening court action today when two letters came through my letterbox - one apologising for the delay in replying and the other offering me £500 which I will accept. I wonder if I hadn't waited a little longer, if I'd have had the same result.

Thank you Martin for all the advice on your website.

There is a calculator on this site here :

    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/cgi-bin/viewnews.cgi?newsid1141050760,24632,

Personally I would put all the charges on a seperate piece of paper and keep the original documents. I would highlight each one on the original details to make sure you dont miss one as you go along though.

    or

If you have excel this bank charge calculator in the form of an excel spreadsheet for listing and calculating multiple charges might be convenient for you:

    http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/campaigns/bankcharges/article.html?in_article_id=417955&in_page_id=507

Make two copies of the charge lists, send one to the bank with your next letter. Keep all charge details to present as evidence at court if you get to that stage.

    Good luck :)
  • each charge has about £8 in interest, so do I add each charge with the interest or do I add the total interest to the £1296? or will it add up to the same ?
  • Bank: Natwest
    Amount Reclaimed: £1550.00 + £179.63 Interest.
    Amount Paid: £1457.00
    The Story:

Bread and butter really, sent my statement request mid way through January, added them up and sent my first letter on 15th february. Not heard anything up until today.

Had a letter explaing that charges have been applied correctly (they've sent me the terms & conditions of account again) told me to read them and understand them (although my accont has been doormant for 2 years).

Thought it was a regection letter until the last paragraph on the third page saying they'll give me £1457.00. I know its nearly a hundred short but I'll take this offer.

Many thanks to Martin and the other members of the site that have offered me there help. Thank you

    Hi

I have sent the first sets of letters to HSBC, but sent them to Local Branches, was this the right thing to do?
Will HSBC send them on to the right place?
    Should i re-send them?

I have now got the right addresses, Thanx

    Vicky

I sent my letters to local branch and I have'nt had any problems, they send them on to the relevant department.
I only used the registered office address when I registered my claim on MCOL.
This morning I received an offer! (Not that i'm accepting it ;0)
    So, I would'nt resend them.

    Hope this helps.
