    Bank: HSBC
    Amount Reclaimed: £1,337.00
    Amount they paid: £1,180.00
The story: Wrote to HSBC using the template letters. A few letters were ignored and i had to write again. they asked me for a breakdown of my charges, which i sent to them immediately and this was ignored. I then registered with the small claims court online and printed off the details i had filled in. I sent this to HSBC with another breakdown of charges and a covering letter. Shortly after, i got a letter offering £1,180.00 which i accepted. This was for charges over 6 years.
I did not pay the court, i just filled in the details and printed it off, so they were not involved in this.

hi , thanks for replying, i have double checked my form and there arnt these symbols anywhere, i have put in my form the roll number etc of my account and this included symbols of - and / along with the numbers and letter, im wondering if its that, im reluctant to delete the roll number etc and attempting to re submit the form incase it is sent and then its sent without my account numbers etc in it and the court rejects it or the bank contends it for that reason.

I had a problem recently with my online bank unable to accept a message. I couldn't figure out why.

In the end it was because I had pasted in my list of charges from excel and although i couldn't see them on the screen, there were "shift" tabs to denote where different ceels had been used.

Once I pasted my message into MS Word and selected to see all the tabs, it became clear to me and i was able to edit oon Word, copy and paste, and submit with no further problem.

Sorry if this doesn't correspond with your problem, but I though I'd mention it just in case...
  • Hi, I've had my 6 years statements back from Abbey and have been through them with a fine tooth comb. I used the calculator that Martin has provided and sent a letter to Abbey asking them to reimburse me £2939 inc interest.
The question I have is, can I also use this same method on my Abbey and Capital One Credit Cards ?
If so, what can I claim ? Late payment fees, overlimit fees ? Also what's the likelihood of them closing the Credit Card Accounts ?

    Many Thanks

    Yes, yes and maybe
  • Bank - HSBC
    Claimed - 1200
    Settled - 950

I was so amazed that after first letter they agreed to pay some so I took first offer though expect I could have held out. As a lawyer I was not interested in proceeding with litigating for the sake of 1-200 as it can be a real headache. I know its a lot of money but haven't got the energy. So Thanks to the site and the great guy who took abbey to court so we can get one back on the bank!
