Thank you Martin with your help I beat the bank :)

HSBC, I claimed £1300 thats with interest. Today they have written to offer me £947 without excepting liability, they think they would win in court blah blah blah. I have decided to take whats on offer, it'll sit in my ISA for a few months until I pass my driving test.

I started started my quest in December and here I am in March with most of my cash back. They havent even told me I have to close the account, though I did have an alternative in case after seeing what they can do.

I cant thank you enough :)
  • Hi Martin

Took you advice on TV last week and downloaded your templates
to claim back bank charges from First Direct

    Sent first letter 21/2/07

Received letter back today 1/3/07 giving me full settlement
    of £411.00. what a result

I was only overdrawn for three months in 2005 of no more than £300 but they charged me the amount shown above. I only earn £700 a month so as you can imagine it left me in dire straight at the time. I borrowed the money to clear the debt at the time so I can now settle my debt with my parents who very kindly cleared it for me and never asked for it back.

Thanks very much would not have done it without your advice and great site
  • wrote and posted initial letter to Halifax on 23rd Feb asking for 60.00 back (received the charges letter the day before). They rang today to tell me they had credited my account with the full amount. Time taken - 3 working days! RESULT!!

Roll on Lloyds TSB (bit of a larger amt 850.00!)

thanks to you all for giving me the confidence to do this!:j :j

  • I am at the 3rd letter to Lloyds TSB and still have no reply to date to all the previous letters that were registered and signed for by the bank.

I have 2 questions if anyone can help.

1: Do you have to continue sending the same breakdown charges for each letter or is the 1st letter with the break down charges sufficient.

2: I do not have details of when the bank account was opened or closed, is this required once it gets to the court stages or can I submit the account was held at Lloyds bank up to 2003 before closure.

    Many Thanks
  • Bank: Barclays
Amount Claimed: £90 plus interest (£24.45)
    Amount Paid: £90

Sent letter 22nd Feb, received reply plus refund of £90 as 'gesture of goodwill' today. Said they were unable to offer compensation for interest. Happy enough with this.

Many thanks for the template Martin & co and inspiration from all other successful forum members! :D
  • I am claiming £1535 (including interest) from Lloyds for my daughter. After the final letter they put £750 in her account as a 'goodwill gesture'. We accepted it as a part payment but said we would pursue the claim for the rest in court.
I have 2 problems. First, should the sum we claim on MCOL be the original sum, with a note to say they have payed £750 as part payment? Or should I deduct the 750 from the original?
The second thing is - if we claim and it gets as far as court, would I be allowed to represent her in court? If not, at what point would we have to say she would not be able to attend? She is working abroad and wont be home until August at the earliest. She started the claim when she was home, and having got this far I don't want to mess it up for her.
I would be really grateful if someone can help me.

    Advice please.

I've written to the Halifax asking for charges back of £640, plus £137.59, making £777.59 in total. I got a reply back after about four weeks saying they are willing to offer me (as a gesture of goodwill...) the sum of £524. But on the Acceptance Letter I have to sign and send back...it says £724. Obviously I don't know which one is right but do you think if I sign the Acceptance Letter and send it back, I will get £724 and not £524??

    Thanks.

hi, i wondered if you can still claim the charge on credit card after you have closed it for a while? thanks.
you can...I got my money back from marbles cc (hfc bank) today...full amount with interest...go for it...they first told me i couldn't claim them so i phoned and spoke to the number/name on the letter and asked if that was their final decision...said they would re-look at my claim...it said in the letter that they had 'fully investigated my claim'... it did make me laugh the way they u-turned....:rotfl:
