    Claimed £332
    Received £332.

Bit of a palaver as they claimed they never received papers from MCOL. Sent again directly to bank by registered mail and got full payment plus £50 costs.
  • Bank: First Direct
    Amount Reclaimed:3700
    Amount they paid:2400
The story: I used the calculator to assess compound interest which was £700. they coughed up £2400 within a week of the first letter, I accepted as I was using the £700 as a bargaining tool. Thanks Moneysaver. I'm now tarting on credit cards and using the egg scam:)
  • Went after First National Tricity Finance for £330.

Wrote usual 2 letters, no answer, so phoned them. Spoke to a delightful young lady called Sharon who told me they were a month behind with these claims.
In the nicest way possible, I explained that I wasn't interested in their backlog, I thought I'd waited long enough and this phone call was an "olive branch" to save them court costs plus interest. This was on Wednesday.

Today (Friday), got an email back with a copy of a letter attached that they were refunding the full amount as a goodwill gesture and that a cheque would follow in the next 10-14 days.

Lo and behold, I arrived home, there was the cheque (sent on the Thursday) and will be back where it belongs in my account in the morning.

CONGRATS AND WELL DONE TO FIRST NATIONAL (Obviously one of the few institutions who can tell when they're on a sticky wicket and don't give you a major attitude when you speak to them).:T
  • Bank: Birmingham Midshires Mortgage (Halifax Group)
    Amount Reclaimed: £628.85 inc interest
    Amount they paid: £755

The Story: Sent letter for statements on 20.01.07. Received breakdown of charges on 23.01.07. Sent 1st letter on 11.02.07. Received offer today for £755.

The difference of amounts, is because in my original letter i used their breakdown, which amounted to £490 without interest between May 2002 and August 2006. However my offer letter had another breakdown of charges with it, detailing charges from Jan 2001 to August 2006 totallying £755.

So basically i would have not know this if they had not sent me an offer letter. But i am happy with that amount as it is more than what i expected.

Thank you to all on this site and CAG for the help and guidance needed to do this.

Still awaiting Natwest Court date and other various statements for other accounts.

For anyone who is worrying about proceeding with claiming their charges. My advice GO FOR IT, you have nothing to lose.

  • I have 5 accounts at the moment - 3 with abbey (1 savings, 1 basic & 1 student account - overdraft £1250) and two with TSB (1 savings & 1 student £1500)

I am overdrawn on both my student accounts and incurr £50 per month charges off each bank. When sending the request of for statements for the last 6yrs, do you have to pay £10 per account or can you request statements from all your accounts for £10?

Also if I claim and suceed and Abbey and TSB happen to close all my accounts down will they notify my or just do it? What would happen to any money in those acounts?

    Thanks

    Jill

I get the feeling that quite a few people are trying it on. Surely in this day and age people must be in a position to know what funds they have available. I can understand that some people do run on the bread line and do dip into the red and the banks do profiteer. But isn't it true that over the top spending goes on. I thought that it was unlawful to pay for items either by cheque or debit card knowing full well that they don't have the funds to cover it. Or is it?
  • i do agree with you, but my troubles started when I rang the bank up after i recieved notifcation from my employers (The Goverment) that our wages would be one day late due to computer programmes, i told the bank that my wages were going in and could they give me a temporary overdraft to cover me for 24 hours they said yes no problem, failed to do this and then charged me approx 120 pounds for 4 Direct Debits that went out. That was 120 pounds i did not have tried to speak to them about it but it was no good
  • hi there, can anyone help me! ive never written on a forum before and am abit unsure what to do! i have had multiple bank charges over the years from abbey, but the worst one of late was when 1 transaction didnt go thru and i ended up getting charged for every dd/so i had going out of that acc. i had no money to pay the bank charges so went to speak with abbey and they took the action of reassessing a loan i have with them..........so to cover the £240 bank charges they reasessed my loan at approx 7% interest and it shot up to 15% interest, i felt i didnt know what to do so accepted it, rather than have a spiralling bank charge situ going on (naive i know). the bank said they would reassess the interest rate this march but to sum it up, because i owed bank charges i ended up with a loan twice what i asked for ( nearly 20k by the time they had finished with me!!) i know i made a silly decision at the time but felt i had no option. Also it has been brought to my attention that when offered the security/insurance part of the loan.......which i took, maybe my own personal insurance would have covered it - hence why didnt the bank advise me on this and save me thousands! again naive on my part! can anyone advise me, id be eternally grateful, leni
