Have heard that many banks are now ignoring letters unless received by recorded delivery (no proof they have ever been received). Have many people sent initial letter RD?0

Hi,
I haven't sent any of my first letters by RD but when I send the letter requesting the amount I did. :rolleyes:0 -
Barclays 14 day period for refunding my charges runs out on Monday. From experience could you tell me whether the banks send out a letter telling you either they have, or will not be, repaying/repaid the charges?
If nothing received after Monday, do I go into the court process immediately, or do I ring to ask if they are going to respond?
Also, they are continuing to levy charges on my account after the date of my submitted my claim. Do I just keep these aside, and go through the process again when they have settled (hopefully) the first claim.
I am hoping that once they settle the first amount, the charges will stop because my account will be healthy.0 -

Hi,
Have you sent them the letter threatenin court and giving them 7 days to reply? If not this would be your next step and see if they reply to that one.0 -

Yes send the next letter and give them 7 days to reply. If they still haven't replied, then I would give them a quick call and say you are starting court action the next day and see what they say over the phone to you.
Best of luck0 -
Hiya, I sent the first letter to lloyds and they just fobbed me off. Sent letter 2 and recieved no reply after over a month so started to claim process (paid £80.00) at 12.00am yesterday (22/01/06). At 2.00pm the same day I recieved a letter from lloyds offering me £600 plus they would waive my next charges of £195. So all together I got £800 - I was claiming £1000. They said the money would be in my account in a couple of days. I cant beleive I started the process and paid £80.00 only to reciev a letter 14 hours later!! So my advice is to not be to hasty starting the court proccess - be patient and with a bit of luck they should give you an offer. Also, they haven't closed my account yet and have not mentioned doing so, so fingers crossed! Also if this has happened to anyone else I would like to know how long it took for the money to go through. The letter is dated the 20th and I recieved it on the 22nd, they said 'a few days' so am just waiting. xxx0

Bank: Bank of Scotland
Amount Reclaimed: £982 (2 accounts over 6 years)
Amount they paid: £982
My husbands friend told us about reclaiming our bank charges back and didnt realise we could actually do this. Sent one letter to them and they sent us a letter advising they were looking into it. About 4 weeks later sent us the declaration form to accept the above amount. Still, set up another account with RBS just to be sure. Going to move banks anyway. :T0 -
Hi,
I hand delivered mine to my local Halifax branch and posted it into the main letter box outside the cash point and that was received ok.
One thing is for sure, they certainly receive the MCOL letter!!0 -

CLAIMED £2400
OFFERED £1800
I have gone through Martins step by step guide as i am trying to reclaim £2400 back from Natwest plus £120 court costs. I received an offer from them offering me £1800 and to be honest i would of accepted this , but it came the day before they were served with the court papers and as it was a saturday i couldnt cancel it so i thought why not go all the way?
i am now at the stage where the have aknowledged the claim and have now a further 14 days to form a defence. I will admit i am getting a bit worried now and wondering whether i should give them a call or should i just stick it out? I think from reading the offer i have 8 weeks to reply or i may of read that wrong? I see lots of people have had lots of offers but i have only had the one!
Could do with some advice from people who have been in this waiting game.
Karen,
I am in the same position, the offer came whilst I am in the final stages of the claim, the dirrence is approx £800 (for interest and court fees)
I have chosen to wait and my decision was based on the fact that I have paid over £200 in court fees and a court date is due to be decided shortly. Also I believe that I will win the case so saying that I accept now, is the same as me saying I don't want £800. I think the odds are still strongly in you favour, but the decision has to be yours at the end of the day.
Good luck whichever way that you go.
