  • I sent my initial letter to HSBC 9 days ago. I now have a reply for them saying that they are looking in to the matter and will contact me with a full response when they have completed their investigations.

So, I'm not sure what to do next, should I await a further response from them (of course, I could wait a very long time), or send them a letter setting a deadline at which point I will start proceedings?
  • This is almost certainly an astonishingly stupid question, but I seem to have a mental blockage on understanding anything relating to matters financial.

What I would like to know is whether charges related to overdraft interest are at all recoverable. I am with Lloyds TSB, and having, I'm afraid to say, been living in my overdraft for rather a long time. Every time a statement arrives I have a section towards the bottom which says "Notification of Charges" and then sets out the amount of overdraft interest charged during the monthly period. I've been working on the presumption that this is fair and dandy and that there's no way I'll get it back - any chance I'm wrong?
  • No, you're not wrong :)

Just heard on BBC news that tonight's Watchdog programme will explain some of the ways in which banks try to avoid repaying unfair charges.

    Worth a watch I'd say.

Sorry if this has been posted before but there is so much in the forums on this subject I haven't had time to look!

Missed it. Maybe will be able to 'watch again' on line. Will check now.

    Bank Nationwide Anglia
    Reclaimed £889
    Paid £1305.27

Before reclaiming charges I started to read all the past stories posted on this site just to make sure it was going to work. Stopped after a while as there were just so many all with a positive response. Wrote one letter as per template and the bank said no, wrote again offering to settle for £675 they said no again so I paid £120 to put it into court (very simple just omit the " in the bit you copy). I then had court correspondence to say they were going to defend all of the claim - felt a little uneasy at this point but sat tight and two weeks later £889 refunded without correspondence and then the balance 4 days later. Received a letter explaining it today 20th haven't asked me to move account as yet.
If you are unsure as to whether or not to do it don't hesitate!! I would have caved in and given up without the help of this site they not only have simplified the procedure but also there are people around to help and reassure you (thanks in particular to Rex_Mundi) - am now making it my mission to tell/help everyone I meet to do the same!!
  • On the 19th January 2007 my sister-in-law and I wrote to the Halifax to ask for £8,141. 2 letters, 2 phone calls and 1 month later, she settled for £7,680. And is extremly happy and very grateful to your wonderful helpful website. Thanks again Martin, I am now also crusading for myself and some work buddies!! xxxx
  • Just plucked up the courage to print off letter 1 ready to send off.
Just hope they do not ask me to pay back a personal loan i have with them early!!

Look out LloydsTSB here i come!!!!! (Charges this month £265, due to small DD's trying to come out, then repeating a few days later)

    Wish me luck,
    Paul.
  • Hi,Im new,Ive been reading the reclaiming sucess stories and Im confused slightly as more than half have not had the interest owed reimbursed and did not push for it.Is that because they are not intitled to it or gave up fighting and took the amount offered??I been thinking, surely if my charges have been taken,my banks had hundreds, then my hundreds sat in their bank(which they took from me wrongly!)would create interest? Therefore if i pushed for interest also would i be refused or is it my right to get it refunded?
Thanks in advance to anyone willing to reply to me :-)
