  • Bank: Alliance & Leicester plc
    Amount Reclaimed: £58
    Amount they paid: £58
The story: Took three letters, the last was a near duplicate of the second, a final notice before proceeding from the MSE template, with an extra paragraph referring them to this site and Consumer Action Group sites online as campaigning bodies.

Result! Many thanks to Martin, this site, and it's readers/contributors.
  • Bank: HSBC
Charges claimed : £325 (i didnt bother with interest)
Charges received: £350 (as between sending letter and response another charge came through)

Yippie victory and surprisingly easily. Luckily I didnt have to get my statements as i had them all. So it was sending the claims letter from this site (23rd Jan 07). Within days a reply that they were looking into it. Should have had a reply last Friday but gave them some time. And this morning I received the message that they would refund my charges. Just have to sign a form, send it back and get paid :j

Only one missing is prepaid envelop or respond address LOL

The only interesting quote is in there first paragraph.

"In circumstances where you have authorised a payment that would, if met by us, lead to your account going overdrawn or over an agreed overdraft limit, we have to consider whether to make this payment. A fee is payable for this service provided by the bank, details of which are set out in our published price list. The circumstances in which the fee will apply are set out in our Personal Banking terms and conditions that you were provided with a copy of when you opened your account. If you claim for a refund proceeded to Court, we therefore believe we would successfully resist any legal challenge in relation to these fees."

However because I only claim a small amount they guess its better to pay than go to court. :rotfl:

Thank you money saving expert for the help.

  • Going to print off ( Martins template) my claim to Barclays.
Will let you know how it goes.
Have you heard today, Barclays made £7 Billion profit last year.
Oh God bless 'em, very well done Barclays:mad:
Now can I have my money back please.
:grouphug: A smile, a 'please' and a 'thank you' cost nothing

    OMG!!!!
Got copy of acknowledgement of service letter on which HSBC's solicitor has indicated that they intend to defend all of the claim. This was 8th of Feb.
Do I need to do anything now or just wait? Not sure what happens now. I am really scared about this!

  • Hi All,:j
Ive just been contacted by our bank The NATWEST Bank Plc customer relations department regarding a request for the return of all our bank charges for both our accounts for the past Two years, They of course will not admit any liabilities or faults of their own but have agreed to refund
(May I Say!!!!) in FULL the whole £3.117.96p (Of course, Without Prejudice) However they did say that if we were not prepared to accept this offer, we should then consider to Move Banks after any payments!!!!!! (Does that mean that they would like us to go????) As you can guess we accepted and are thinking about moving on to pastures green (After 38yrs) with the same bank,,,, Wish we now claimed for the full Six years,,,, I think the bank would have had a fit! or pleaded some form of poverty, do you not think?????:rotfl:
Many thanks Martin for your help and to all!!!! Go Get Your Money Back!!! It's your's NOT Their's,

  • Bank: Halifax
    Amount Reclaimed:£2977.53
    Amount they paid:£2699.00
The story: Posted the first letter on the 07/02/2007 requesting repayment of £2699 of charges and £278.53 of interest as calculated on this site.

Today 20/02/2007 I received a call from Halifax to discuss this letter and they said they would be willing to MAKE AN OFFER. I explained the only offer appart from the full amount would be the £2699 of charges and drop the interest. this was accepted by them and i am advised i will receive £2699 within 14 days.
    Hows that 1 letter 1 result!!!!!!!!!:j
  • Hello, i put in a claim to halifax for £1458. they phoned me with an intial offer of £1180. I declined this offer and insisted i wanted to be paid the full amount as full and final settlement. After negotiation they agreed to pay the full amount that i asked for. So it works and i really appreciate the help and advice that this web site has given me. off to buy my son presents!

    Hiya :hello:

I am currently in the process of claiming for closed accounts also and had no details whatsoever so I just sent the template letter to the bank but added in that the account was closed and gave them my DOB, Full name and all addresses I have lived at in the past 6 years.

I have had a couple of replies saying they have received my request and will be in touch and some also quoted my account number so they will be able to find your details.

    Good luck :D
