    You choose no.
  • DOnt worry. All you need is a little bit of patience and a lot of highlighting ink. Its quite therapeutic seeing all the amounts total up becauuse its mostly coming back into your pocket.

I went onto HSBC's internet banking this morning and wrote down all my charges from the last six years - £2,674! The bulk of this has been from the last two years i.e. £2,355. I'll be writing my first letter to HSBC this lunch time - WISH ME LUCK GUYS!!!!

1st letter sent to Barclays on 12th February (received 13th February), response received 20th February saying that they had received the letter, but whilst they will try to respond to my letter in the time frame I requested, they might take up to 4 weeks to respond. I am not sure whether to not consider this a "positive response" (as stated in my 1st letter) and go ahead and send the second letter immediately. I guess I should wait until I said I would take further action really and give them the full amount of time to respond properly. Any advice?

Although this is a standard letter from the bank, do give them the time you said before sending the next letter.

Thanks Edinburghlass - I will be doing this. It's only a matter of a few more days anyway :) Will keep you updated on any progress/lack thereof!
  • Yes they are if you asked for statements. Did you send the letter asking for all your info under the DPA or did you just ask for statements? If you did you need to send them the template letter with the £10 cheque.
  • Yipeee !!!

I claimed £1538.99 and today recieved a letter to offer £1045. I rang and spoke to them and asked for the full ammount. They said I'd miscalculated and that the ammount was actually £1478 and made an offer of £1300. I said I'd accept that I may have made an error but asked for the £1478 and they agreed.

It appears they have a script to follow in such circumstances but be persistant. The lady I spoke to was curt but polite. She told me that the banks position is that the charges are made lawfully. I said that may be but their charges are excessive and indefensible. I have to say, she didn't put up much of a fight so dont be bamboozled, stay focussed. It's your money, and to most of us, it represents a 'lot' of money whereas to the banks it's nothing. At the end of the day it's about £30 to issue court papers, it's worth it. My partner is struggling with Nationwide at the moment but 'onwards and upwwards' as they say. It's time for the next of Martins template letters!!!!!! Happy hunting :T
