  • Does that mean that if the bank doesnt acknowledge the claim,
I can go for Judgement 14 days from the 20th?

Hi everyone, first post from me. I've just put my charges reclaim letter into Barclays Bank. I've been with them for 16 years and a couple of years ago things went a bit pearshaped financially and it's only now that things are finally getting back on track. Needless to say, being charged £25 or £30 up to 3 times a month didn't help when I really could have done with it. Ironically now that I am digging my way out, I'm finally in a position to try and get some extra cash off of the moneygrabbing bankers.
This year I've taken the bull by the gonads and intend to be financially sorted in time for 2008 when all my student loans will finally be paid off. So on Jan 4th I applied for the best balance transfer CC as recommended by MSE so by the end of that month that little interest haemorrhage was well and truly plugged. This week I opened my parachute account, again as recommended by MSE so now I'm in a position to have a whine at Barclays. Incidentally, if they don't force me to close my account (not that I care), I fully intend to keep a tenner or so in the account just because it'll cost them more money to keep the account going than it will to close it. :) My total claim is £563 (with statutory interest). I'll keep you posted on how it turns out.

Popshed, I'm pretty much in the same boat as you. Ex-student, finally sorted his finances out and having a whine at Barclays for a very similar amount of money (£565 over the past 6 years - £647.01 with interest) I'll be following any progress you make with interest (at 8% pa, of course! ;)) and I'll keep you posted regarding any progress I make. I posted my first letter on the 12th - not sure if I'll get a reply to this or not, but I'll post again when I know more!

Martin's main article says that there is a processing fee of between £30-£120 depending on the amount of the claim, but that it is refunded if you win.

Can anyone advise me whether I need to add this fee into the amount of my actual claim, or will it automatically be refunded if/when I win please?

I didnt add it on to anything, just assumed it would be automatic.

  • I've never written in before, but I just wanted to say a HUGE thank you to Martin.

Since following his advice I have managed to reclaim £120 in bank charges, although I was told these were a 'gesture of goodwill' and no future reimbursements would be made should I go overdrawn.

Today I realised I was £8 overdrawn and as such have incurred a £30 charge, fair enough I thought, the bank said they wouldn't reimburse me anymore so thought there wasn't anything else I could do but pay the charges. I then logged onto my emails and read the latest 'Money Tips' email which spurred me onto call the bank back and challenge them, and as a result they reversed the charges on the spot...woohoo!!!!!

Martin, you do a great job...thanks again for all your tips and advice!!!

  • Can someone help please. I posted two letters and £10's to Barclays on 5th January 2007 asking them for the statements etc. I received mine and have done the assessment and sent off my written claim. The other letter was for my husband's information, signed by him and posted the same day.

It is now 40+ days since this was sent and he has received nothing.

Two questions : (1) is it 40 working days? (2) what is the next thing we do if they have failed to produce the information?

    Thanks.
