  • Bank: The Royal bank of Scotland
    Amount Reclaimed: £1036 + £256.09 interest
    Amount they paid: £1036
The story: Sent letter 15th Jan reclaiming all charges in the past 6 years (i'm much more organised these days but I was a financial wreck in my student days, leading to all of these charges). I got letter back today offering settlement amount of charges total £1036 but not the interest. I've accepted and I'm very happy. This will now pay off my loan 2 months earlier than planned making me debt free sooner. :T

Also pleased i get to keep my account open with them as they are fantastic to bank with.

    Thanks Martin :money:

    Claimed £490 (+ interest of £57.53)
    Accepted £490

I read your article on reclaiming bank charges mid January.
Sent letter to FD on 20 Jan. Received statements (FOC) by courier 26 January, and sent claim letter 31 Jan.
Today (15 Feb) received offer of £490 WITHOUT PREJUDICE.
Have accepted, as I don't think the interest sum is worth the extra fight.

A tiny victory for the common man (and woman)!
Thanks for all the great moneysaving advice.

  • I have filed my claim at MCOL and its at the start of the judgment. Bit late in the day maybe but realise i have gone about 4 days over the 6 years!! Do you think this is a major problem?
If/when the bank come back with an offer they may well take off any charges they reckon are not claimable as being over the six years so I wouldn't worry about 4 days :)

Only you can decide if you want to accept an offer. If you stick to your claim, your chances are excellent. There is not one case yet that Lloyds have defended at a court hearing (that I know of).

Hi there i have sent my second letter to lloyds but it has been 14 days and not heard anything back. Did they accept your first letter or did you have to send a second letter and if so how long was it before they sent the check to you
  • Hi everyone, first post from me. I've just put my charges reclaim letter into Barclays Bank. I've been with them for 16 years and a couple of years ago things went a bit pearshaped financially and it's only now that things are finally getting back on track. Needless to say, being charged £25 or £30 up to 3 times a month didn't help when I really could have done with it. Ironically now that I am digging my way out, I'm finally in a position to try and get some extra cash off of the moneygrabbing bankers.
This year I've taken the bull by the gonads and intend to be financially sorted in time for 2008 when all my student loans will finally be paid off. So on Jan 4th I applied for the best balance transfer CC as recommended by MSE so by the end of that month that little interest haemorrhage was well and truly plugged. This week I opened my parachute account, again as recommended by MSE so now I'm in a position to have a whine at Barclays. Incidentally, if they don't force me to close my account (not that I care), I fully intend to keep a tenner or so in the account just because it'll cost them more money to keep the account going than it will to close it. :) My total claim is £563 (with statutory interest). I'll keep you posted on how it turns out.
  • MONEY IN ACCOUNT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • HSBC
    £3600 inc interest
    £3100 net

Earlier this year we read the reports on here and thought.... what the heck, worth a try. Simple process, just as the site says. Sent £10 for each of our 3 accounts and got the cheques back, along with 6years statements. We didnt think we had paid that much in charges, especially as we are more stable and sensible of late, but 4-6 years back we clearly were not! HSBC acknowledged our complaint within a few days of recieveing our demand. They wrote to us after 3 weeks askingfor the information in a different format (just to be a pain????) but before we could challenge or comply, we got letters saying they would "without prejadice" pay the ammount net of interest.
£3000 in the bank ready to be paid off of our mortgage, result!
    Thanks guys
