Wrote 1st letter on 11 Nov 2006. Bank replied saying i had been made well aware of all the charges when I opened the account.

Wrote 2nd letter on 9 Dec 2006. Bank replied with exactly the same letter as before and enclosed a copy of the terms and conditions leaflet.

Filed online court proceedings on 20 Jan 2007. Rec'd letter from bank 1 week later saying that they were going to contest all of the claim.

7 FEB 2007 - rec'd letter from branch saying they had rec'd correspondance from bank solicitor and that they had refunded all the money claimed into my account.

Success in under 3 months. Hooray!!!!!!
  • Amount claimed - £1895.50
    Amount offered - £1895.50

The Mrs did most of my claim for me, as im a bit lazy. She compiled the list of charges for me and sent them off with the first letter, no response from Natwest. Sent the second letter and as a result got three 'stalling' letters i.e "we're sorry blah blah blah" and "we're lookin into it" etc etc. None of the letters had phone numbers on so we had to find a phone number ourselves.

Went on holiday for a month so only began completing the moneyclaim form for the court yesterday. The Mrs suggested i ring the bank just before i submitted the claim to see if they had an update. Rang them and told them i was about to hit the submit button online and the bloke asked me for the full amount and said he would ring me back the same afternoon....which surprisingly, he did!!!!!

He rang my mobile and told me that they had sent out an offer for the full amount already and asked if i had received it, i said i hadnt. He then said they had offered the full amount (above) but wouldnt pay the interest quoted in our letters to them, which was just over £500. Expecting the offer letter tomorrow, dont know whether i will accept or not yet???? Good result though!

Will keep you updated, thanks to Martin & everyone else!

    & Good Luck :j

  • Bank: NatWest

    Claimed: £3300

    Recieved: £2669

After hearing bout the claims I had to nag my GF for 3 months to reclaim charges from Natwest, she did so in the 1st week in Dec 06, they replied with 2 weeks saying they'd look in to it. GF was about to send the 2nd letter this morning and in th post today received a letter offering £2669 of which we'll be happy to settle at, in the letter it goes on about no further claims which is alright as I've told her to clear her overdraft and once her loans cleared to close the account, she has another account in place.

Just remember its your money and they've taken it unfairly, put pen to paper and start reclaiming.

    GOOD LUCK!

  • I downloaded the template letter from Martin's website in reclaiming bank charges and after writing ONE leter to Natwest, they have reimbused me £804 in charges. They call this a "goodwill gesture" but I have been in my branch many times and they have fobbed me off. I was originally asking for £65 charges to be returned after I went overdrawn by 10p!!! As they wouldnt I then went on to writing the letter and in this case the Natwest have lost out. If they had given me my £65 I probably wouldnt have gone on the pursue my £804.

I would say to anyone, try it - you have nothing to lose and everthing to gain.

    Bank: Natwest
    Amount Reclaimed: £1187
    Amount they paid: £1187

Hi I wrote a letter to Natwest about 2 weeks ago listing all of the charges. Today they sent a letter saying they will repay the £1187. I am really happy I thought I wouldn't get anything back as this account had been closed for 4 years. Thank you Martin and everyone who helped me get the info I needed to do this.
