  • Took the first letter into our branch last Monday (29th Jan), asking for £936 plus interest.

Today, we received a letter which initially looked bad, saying all charges are fair and transparent, and they are not penalties but fees for providing a temporary overdraft.

However, the first line on the second page said that as a goodwill gesture they were prepared to pay the £936!

Yes! First letter, no chasing, less than 14 days after the first letter!

If you are considering claiming, just do it. What have you got to lose?
  • Charges refunded with interest (even though I didn't request it), from Bank of Scotland - total approx £2000 - wrote first letter template which I got on the site, then used 2nd letter template from Govan Law Centre, and got stock replies for weeks - "we are looking into your complaint" - then got a phone call out of the blue, just as I was about to fill in the small claims court forms -they offered me the full amount that I had claimed plus interest (I claimed for the past year and a half) on the phone. The person who contacted me was actually very helpful over the whole situation - got them refunded into the bank account within days of sending back the acceptance form. Thanks very much to this forum for giving me the information, materials and motivation I needed. It was stressful and time-consuming but so worth it!
  • Rolling Total £169,893.70 - Keep it going!

    from 1/2/07
  • Woowee. Just got my cheque for £2450 through from HSBC - they blustered and stalled, but it was never in doubt. Go for it!!

Just to let you all know in addition to my H.S.B.C. success they offered me £950 as I have mentioned before.
I signed the letter they sent me and wrote one up myself, in it I said I have acepted the offer as it is a very good offer but if they could find it in their hearts to re-imburse me the full amount as I have a new baby boy and the stress that H.S.B.C. have caused me over the years with their unlawful charges really put a burden on my finanaces.
Anyway they have paid me today £1050 so a really nice letter to Colin Langdale worked, in the letter I also thanked them etc!

Now I`m awaiting my statements from Barclaycard... watch this space :)

    Paid (after first letter) £1600!

    Wish mine was this quick

He didnt even buy me a pint!!!! :~(
  • Bank: Nat West
    Amount claimed: £1116 + £112.44 interest = £1228.44.
    Sent Letter 1: 23rd January 07
Reply: 7th February 07 (exactly 14 days my deadline for response)
    Amount paid: £1116

I am accepting it'll be in my account in 7days, from £0 to £1116 in 21 days. and thank you Martin for this useful resource and the work he does which I am tell everyone about.

If anyone reading this thinks "I can't be bothered" or "I can't" then think again, one letter and a bit of time to work out what you are owed, net result for me was £1116, it was totally worth the time and effort which for the amount reclaimed was minimal. I really am no letter writer, I usually don't have a stamp! But on this occasion I was incensed to be charged £190 when the bank bounced £140 of direct debits as I didn't have the funds, but the bank took their money out immediately. So go for it.

    £1116 YAY!!!!
