Hi,
I asked for my statements for the past six years and enclosed a cheque
which was posted back to me along with the statements !
I followed the instructions and sent the claim letter in a long with a copy
batch of statements asking for a rebate of GBP 1685.
Received a confirmation letter advising I'd receive a reply within 10 days.
This was received today indicating they'd make me a settlement of GBP
1410 which I'm going to accept !
To be honest first direct have been really efficient about the whole matter
and I can't fault them on their handling of the matter.
Rgds,

BANK: HALIFAX
AMOUNT CLAIMED: £475
AMOUNT THEY PAID: £475
This 1 was a fairly easy task, took a couple of months inc waiting for statements etc, they offered us a measly £31.50-which we obviously declined (cheeky so & so's!), then BINGO!
Letter arrived offering full amount which we accepted, we didn't need to file a claim etc.
All i will say is they didn't respond so much as once within the 14 days timescale we stated in our letters, but as i never quite got round to filing that claim, it went in our favour to hold out a bit longer.
The money has been credited to our credit card, so we owe just £102 & they have not cancelled our card/account etc.
Although we have cut up our card & intend to cancel it when we've paid off the balance.
Now all we've got to do is get the £2000 the Yorkshire Bank owe us-they are proving a little more reluctant to cough up, so to speak. I'll keep you posted with that 1!
Yipppppppppppeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
THANK-YOU, THANK-YOU, THANK-YOU MARTIN & CO.

Like to thank everyone at MSE for their easy to follow advice regarding reclaiming bank charges. I claimed for £471 from the Nationwide. Although I had to eventually start court proceedings (they settled before court date) I managed to recouped £662.70 including court costs and interest payments.
Thanks again.0 -
Hello everyone,
Just thought I'd let everyone know that I have won my case with Barclays.:j And today I got my money, all £4363.09 of it. It started last july and I kept asking and asking for my money and they offered me £800 as the old gesture of good will.I declined. I then said I'd take them to court and they said the charges are justified blah blah and said ok...take me to court...so I did. They filed a defence and it was complete piffle and totally flawed. Anyway time passed and I filled in my allocation questionaire etc and got my court date....feb 27th 2007. Yes, it was months away and it took a long time. Just last week I got a very condecending and rather intimidating letter from them offering £3065 saying my claim lacks merit etc. The amount they owed me was £4o39.90. I said no thank you. I was very angry at this  letter and even now they were still trying to get out of paying so I decided to stick 8% on top out of sheer frustratuion and you know what? ...This week I got it plus my 8% interest. I can't believe how wonderfull it feels to have taken on a huge bank and won.
I have advice on any person who wants to take on the bank...
1) Don't threated court unless you are prepared to go..(i couldn't wait!)
2) Keep copies of all correspondents to and from the bank, court etc.
3) Remember, it is you taking them to court NOT the other way round so don't let them intimidate you in any way. They tend to use that against you so try turning it around and use this against them ,ie. write to the judge and show them the intimidating letter.
4) Don't give up...The bank WILL cave in every time!
I was slightly dissapointed I didn't have to go in to court, but am sssso relieved the fight is over.
Good luck to anybody in the same position
Niki

Bank Barclays
Amount reclaimed £820
Amount Paid £795
My Story is a bit boring really, i sent off the first letter as i already had bank statments going back to 2003, after adding up the charges i had encurred in this time (couldn't beleive the amount). Yeah so sent of first letter asking for money back on the 25th January. About 5 days later got a standard letter saying they were sorry i felt like this and would investigate my complaint.
After reading a lot of the threads on this website and consumer advice, i was expecting to go all the way to court.
To my complete suprise i recieved a letter yesterday offer me £795 as a good will gesture.
As it is only £25 off what i was asking for i have accepted the offer and sent the form off recorded delivery (even though they give me prepaid envelope, don't want to chance them not getting it). The money will hopefully be in my account in about 7 days.
I am over the moon and would like to thank Martin and people on this site for bringing this to everyones attention.
Good luck to everyone.0 -
Bank: Bank of Scotland (Mortgages)/HBOS
Claimed: £470
Paid: £590
BOS pushed to the very last, they ignored my letters, acknowledged my claim, entered a defence. The judge granted a 2 month stay to enable both parties to negotiate. I wrote to them advising that the judge was encouraging us to negotiate and that he would probably not look favourably on BOS if they didnt make any effort to resolve the matter. But as per usual they ignored my letter totally. Suddenly a cheque for £590 appeared from them dated 31.1.2007 the day before the stay expired!
There were a few times when I nearly gave up as it seemed they were going to see it through to court. My advice to all those thinking about it is go for it, they do fold eventually and hopefully they will fold for you sooner. However, be prepared to go to court right from the start, it will make things easier if they do decide to see how far they can push you.
Good luck to everyone doing this, if I can do it, anyone canDFW Nerd no. 108LBM: Jan 2010 DFD: June 2014 - 27.1% paid off so farWeight loss (started 12/05/2012) = 37lbs/109lbs0 -
Bank: Smile - Co-Operative Bank
Amount Reclaimed: £1246.00
Amount they paid: £731.50
Original claim of £1246 was a total of all figures I saw on the statements of charges sent. So maybe a little over enthusiastic.
Anyway sent in letter 4 threat of court and following day £731.50 is deposited into our account with a letter following next day 7/2/07 dated 25th January explaining debit intrest does not constitute a charge therefore figure of £731.50.
We are happy with that :T
Thanks Martin and team0
