  • Hi,
    Bank: HSBC
    Amount Claimed: £927
    Amount Paid: £745 or more

I wrote off my first letter using the BBC website template just before Christmas after doing the total charges myself using online banking. I was so shocked to find they had taken this much of my money over the years! (most while I was at Uni) I got a reply about 14 days later from Colin Langdale saying they were looking into the matter, but no date given as to when they would respond back. I sat on it for a while and got fed up by the 26th of January and wrote them another letter using Martin's template giving them 7 days to come up with the money or I would file a claim. I called three days later asking if they had received the letter. The women was surprised that I was disputing the offer they had made. Offer? What offer? I said. Apparently they sent out an offer letter on the 22nd of January which I never received. I told them to ignore my third letter and send out another offer letter. That still took another 7 days to arrive. I finally got the offer today and have accepted but also including a letter asking to find it in their hearts to repay all the money as I have a new baby, on benifits and so on. I read wdj40's message posted this morning and thought it would work for me too! I hope it does!!!
    Total time=6 long weeks

Thank you Martin!!!! I can finally get married now!!!! And get my lincense!!!

    Hi Martin

My sister told me about this site after my brother in law received £885 in unfair bank charges. I followed the instructions on this website to the letter. I claimed all bank charges and added interest onto it and the bank wrote back to me offering £377. I settled there. Not bad for a couple of hours work. I am claiming back from HSBC I will keep you informed.

Thanks for the tips. Money came in handy to pay for a broken tooth.

  • Bank: Natwest
    Amount Reclaimed: £1074
Amount they paid: £1190 including Court Fee
    The story:
First letter I got from Natwest was with the cheque. They just ignored my letters without acknowledging them, which breaches their own compklaints procedure. I reported them to the Financial Ombudsman for that and made sure Natwest knew about it. The more pressure the better!
  • Amount Claimed: £8500.00 (inc interest and court charges)

All paid into my account today.

Thank you for such a great website. I have passed the information on to all my friends. :T
  • Just to recap - asked RBS to refund £700 on my personal account and £3200 on my joint accountm using Martin's letters.

By return of post they settled my personal account claim in full. Fortnight later got another letter from them offering £2500 on my joint account. I wrote back and rejected this offer, giving them until 7th February or I would take them to Court. Didn't hear anything.....

Didn't have time to do court summons on Wednesday or Yesterday - but looked at CAG website last night for how to go about it and what to put in the particulars of claim.

This morning, letter arrived from RBS offering full amount of £3200.

Absolutely delighted with outcome - thank you so much Martin - I really was sceptical about this at the outset. But stick to yourguns and it can be done.

    amount paid: £677

Wrote first letter listing charges to be reclaimed. They wrote back two weeks later stating that as goodwill gesture they wd pay up this time & had to sign disclaimer stating I wd comply with their contract in future & not claim again or they wd close my account.

However, money went into my account 4 days later.

  • Bank: Barclaycard
Amount Reclaimed: £339.16 (£300 charges, rest in interest)
    Amount they paid: £120
The story: Wrote to Barclaycard after my success with HSBC last Tuesday. Expected a fight. Received a letter this Tuesday saying they were looking into it. Received another letter today (Friday) offering me £120. As my finances are not pretty, I think I shall accept. I was impressed by the speed they moved (HSBC took 5 or 6 weeks).
