  • Hi folks!!
I won £2263.79 from tha Abbey. It took threatening going to court and sending a witness statement!!! All in all took about 10 months!!! I did have a break of 4 months in the middle!!!:D
Made it - 15 years married!! Finally!! xx:beer:
  • Bank: RBS
    Amount Reclaimed: £650
    Amount they paid: £555
The story: Took a little persistance. They ignored my original 1st letter. Sent on the new 1st letter offering to settle for a lesser amount. I told them £500, and got £555 in return. Only took 16 days start to finish and well worth it.

If you don't ask, you don't find out!
  • :rotfl: Bank HSBC Amount Claimed £900 - Amount they paid £748
Centrica Finance - They paid up £381 after first letter!!!

With HSBC I got to letter 3 in the process, partly because I think they lost letter 2! Within 7 days of letter 3 arriving (the one where you threaten court action) my offer arrived. The difference in my claim and what I actually got was a genuine miscalculation on my part....the money will be in my account in the next 7 days YIPPPPPPEEEE:beer:

As for Centrica Finance, its a long story and I did not think I could apply the same prinicples to a loan company as to a bank, but HEY PRESTO, after receiving my first letter for details of my charges they must have realised where it would all lead and they telephoned me the NEXT DAY and made the offer of refunding 50% of my charges, as it was my first atempt I jumped at the offer. Now after my success with HSBC I wished I had pressed for the full 100% with Centrica...but the glass is definately HALF FULL in this case..

I would urge anyone who thinks they have unfair charges to claim to get on and do it...:T :money: THANKS MARTIN!!!
  • Bank: Halifax
    Amount Claimed: £4486
    Amount Paid: £4486

Statements requested early December, received Jan 2007. letters sent consisted of combination of MSE & CAG template requesting refund, follow up letter giving 14 more days before court.
Phone call today 31/1 explaining that all my charges were applied under the T&C of the account and HBOS, but they do understand in light of recent publicity my application fror the refund.

As a goodwill gesture :rotfl: they will offer me £2000.

I politely refused and said that as my case was near the expiry of MY timescales I had prepared court papers and would be filing for the full amount of £4486 plus interest totalling £5700.61.

I was then asked, so what figure am I looking for to settle - So I said the full amount of £4486 as I realise if we settle at this stage I cannot request the interest.

Another goodwill gesture then was offered of £4000. Again- I refered to the potential of moving this onto court and she said OK, £4486 it is, letter of acceptance will be with me tomorrow, and will be in my account within 7-10 days.  :T :T :money:

This will be very useful for my wedding plans laters this year.

    Thanks Guys!!

So now its Halifax VISA, Co-op Visa, Egg Card who will be getting my attention!!

Lovely surprise on a cold january morning. They did offer £1,126.00 but when i rang and spoke to a lovely lady she just said "OKAY". Didn't even have to speak to anyone else.

Well worth all the work and took from 27th December 2006 to 22nd January 2007.

So glad I stuck to my guns and this is all THANKS to this great site

    hI ALL

Just to let you all know I had the written confirmation in the post on Thursday 26th January.
Friday 27th January - received back at Halifax all signed.
Monday 29th January - Checked my bank balance and it was in.

So I didn't have to wait the 7 - 10 days wait. Excellent news to start my week off.
:A Tomorrow's just another day - keep smiling
  • Bank: Halifax
    Amount Reclaimed: 1240
    Amount Paid: 800

I did all the paperwork on behalf of my son (20), he just signed the letters put in front of him. We started by getting all his old statements, then I wrote 3 letters after that, with the final one threatening court action. Neither of us was too happy about taking it that far. My son received a phone call today offering him a goodwill payment of £400, which he refused. After a bit of negotiating they settled on £800, which he is very happy with.
I might have taken it a bit further, but am more than happy not to have to go any further. It took about 2 months from the first letter requesting repayment.
  • BANK Abbey Business Banking
    Claimed £580
    Paid £465

I could have gone the whole way, but I still have my Abbey Business Account Cheque Book Guarantee Card ETC!!
They have just told me not to be a naughty boy in the future..:T
  • Not a bad result i think. After reading the information on this site i pursuaded my girlfriend to take this action and it worked.

    Bank: Barclays
    Amount Reclaimed: approx £980
    Amount they paid: £approx £650
    The story:
Used the basic template letters and did not have to threaten legal action. They even sent back the £10 cheque for data protection payment!!

I'm now going to try to get some money out of my previous mortgage lender as they overcharged me on exit. Originally stated £95, was actually charged over £200!!
    Thanks Martin.
  • Sent first template letter to HSBC at beginning of Jan: I was claiming £1200 for six years acc.charges; Had letter yesterday offering me £1054!!!
I hesitated for months before starting this process- thinking I was opening a can of worms!! but in the end it was painless!! well for me anyway!!
  • Bank: first direct
    Amount Reclaimed: £430 and £484
Amount they paid: £430 and £484!!!
The story: received notification of some ridiculous charges and rang them to tell them i have just opened another bank account after being with them for 12 years and i wanted my statements!! they asked me not to rush into anything and to get back to them before i closed my account (ha!) i sent off the 1st letter from mse and got one back within 4 days saying i would have a reply within 10 days - i did and then the money was credited into my account within 4 days.

i now have reduced my o/d so as not to incurr any future charges (thank you martin!)
