The story: Wrote letter in mid December. Got form response and then nothing. Was going to start legal proceedings today when they wrote and said I could have my money back in full as a "good will gesture". I can live with that...

Extremely easy :-) Wrote off for my statements and they arrived within a week. Then it was simply one letter claiming the charges and hey presto one and a half weeks later NatWest offered me the full amount.

Obviously they think their charges are fair and transparant and this was just a gesture of goodwill!!

Many, many thanks to this site and all the regular posters (particularly Edinburgh & Rex) for letting us all know about this and for the information that made my claim possible.

Finally, anybody claiming from NatWest should cut out the middle man and write straight to Customer Relations in Borehamwood, the address is in the NatWest thread - this is where all your claim letters end up anyway!!

Regards and good luck all :-)

  • Bank: HSBC
    Amount Reclaimed:£2240
    Amount they paid:£1840
The story: Simply completed evertything as described on here and hey presto, all in all it took about 10 weeks! Well please with result.

It seems that HSBC have cottoned onto the fact that there is nothing they can do so are offering payments early!
  • Credit Card: Capital One
    Amount Reclaimed: £18
    Amount they paid: £18
The story: At the beginning of January I wrote a letter to Capital One asking them to refund me a late payment fee of £18. I enclosed a photocopy of my credit card statement highlighting the £18 late payment fee they charged me. The first letter they wrote to me said that they were looking into it and I would get a response with 4 weeks. Then last week I received a letter from them with a cheque for £18.

I am really pleased with how quick and easy it was. Especially since I closed down the account ages ago and I was claiming back money from about 3 years ago.

Got my offer form today- £1350 :) I only phoned em yesterday. Amazing how fast things can move when the will is there!! Needless to say it's gone back by return of post and rec. del. Until I saw Martin on BBC Breakfast, I had no idea about this. The cash could not come at a better time.

SINCERE THANKS AND BEST WISHES TO MARTIN, REX AND EDINBURGHLASS! :money: :T :T

  • Bank: Royal Bank of Scotland
    Amount Claimed: £1120
    Amount Paid: £1120

We wrote to the bank 4 Jan 2007 reclaiming all charges calculated from statements over the last 6 years - I throw nothing away! We got a letter of acknowledgement from their Head Office dated 10 Jan, followed by another letter dated 24 Jan, the bank not admitting liability, "however ... we are prepared to offer the amount of £1120.00 ... "
The full amount was paid directly into said account 30 Jan.
All it took was the one letter from this web site and Hey Presto! We have our money back.
Many, many thanks - it was well worth a comparatively small amount of our time and the cost of a stamp.
  • Best wishes to all involved:

First Direct: Claimed £360 - Paid £330 (Some charge on a cheque that was refunded at the time)

HSBC: Claimed £106 - Paid £106 (Awaiting it going into my account)
  • Bank - Smile (co-operative bank)
    Amount claimed - £380
    Amount paid - £380

Used MSE sample letter 1, heard back a week later they were looking into it. Two weeks later I had just posted letter 2 threatening court action when the money went into the account. Now we're in credit we want to close the account anyway (although it appears we could keep it going) - was only the charges which were stopping us in the first place. I've always thought these charges were way too high, now just wishing I'd kept my old Lloyds account open...

    Bank - Abbey National
    Claimed - 900
    Offered and accepted 1195.00

This one took forever to actually get anything from them and in the end I went through the Financial Services Ombudsman. I first made contact around Summer 2006 and I finally got the call yesterday from the Ombudsman with the offer. Abbey agreed to not only pay what I'd claimed but also some additional charges which they'd levied since I put in the original claim so I'm very happy

I also claimed about £350.00 on my Abbey Credit Card in Summer 2006 and they actually refunded back the charges immediately
