Can anyone please offer any advice with regards 'service charges'. I have been debited a service charge by Natwest every month for years, on top of overdraft rates of between c15% - 30%.
Am i able to claim these service fees back, as they are not technically default charges... or are they?
please help0 -

You cannot claim these fees. For certain types of accounts (like the Natwest Advantage Gold account), you have to pay a fee to hold the account. These charges are not reclaimable. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

Abbey will pay back your charges, you just need to stick to your claim. Your response is a standard one that lots of banks are giving (some are saying 8 weeks). You ignore this and make your next move at your timetable, not theirs.
Of the cases that have gone to court, I'm not aware of one single case that Abbey took to a hearing, and won.
You are just feeling the same frustration as many people do. Don't worry, it may seem futile at times, but this process will work for you, it just takes time. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

Generally no. You can only claim for the interest that bank charges alone are causing as part of your unnauthorised overdraft. Working this out from the legitimate interest that you can't claim can be extremely difficult. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

Bank: Natwest
Amount Reclaimed:£900
Amount they paid:£900
The story:
Started to write to them in November, said the charges were fair. Wrote back again. This time they said they would look in to. 21 days passed to called to ask for name of person to issue summons in, and also the press office contact (would not give me a name) - two days later got a letter offering me full payment as a goodwill gesture....0 -
