Really worried that I have messed things up with the way I set charges out. Does the format matter? Will it affect my claim? Have already done 2nd letter stage.
Reassurance please!0 -

I really wouldn't worry. The worst thing that will happen is the bank asks you to resend the list in a different format (as they have gone). Resend the list (using the example I gave you) with your next letter. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

I am delighted to report that your recommended system got my wife back her charges from Nat West Bank. In total they offered to repay all charges rendered from 12 months ago, although they wouldn't pay the interest accrued. This amounts to £668.00. We received the details of the charges initially within 10 days of our request as you described, then we send an original and two follow up letters the seond as a response to receieving an acknowledgement to the first (sent on 19/12) received on 10th January.
At that point we told then we would be going to court after 24th January and received the offer today 26th January. We found a free call number to their customer services department and rang them on 25th, to be told they would need 8 weeks to sort this matter out.
In their offer letter they state that there is nothing wrong with their charges but they were making the offer ex-gratia, personally I dont care which way - we are getting the money back!!!
Thanks for you advice

The Royal Bank of Scotland
Claimed £2757.00
Offer £2352.00
Put in a claim just before Christmas, and towards the 2 week deadline was sent letters from 3 seperate departments within the Royal Bank. I gave them another 2 weeks, then I hit them with the interest charges letter. I was sent an award letter to the amount VERY QUICKLY which I have accepted.
I was a single mum at the time in a part time job and any money charged by my bank was a fortune.
So THANKS MARTIN for all your advice and will be able to give my son a well deserved treat!0 -
Royal Bank of Scotland
Amount claimed: 510.77
Amount won: 510.77
I made this claim starting in the middle of December and today received a letter asking me to accept the full amount as a gesture and in full and final settlement of my complaint. The usual nonsense about we believe these charges were fair and in accordance with our t & c's and enclosed a t & c's leaflet!
Still, got my money back, cleared the overdraught and have still got my account.
Thanks MSE for starting this campaign.0 -
Bank: HSBC
Amount Claimed: £433
Amount Received: £420
Story: After reading threads on this board, thought I had nothing to lose and tried for my OH. Sent off cheque for £10 with the first letter which they returned uncashed with the statements. Sent off second letter with a list of charges to the Head Office. Gave them three weeks before sending next letter as it was over the Christmas and New Year period before chasing up. Sent third letter and then received a reply back offering £420 (less one payment which was a cheque we asked to be returned anyway).
This was completely painless, only took a bit of time to go through all the statements.
Great result, I am so pleased. Big thanks to all on this site who gave me advice :beer:0 -
I have started my court case with Abbey to (hopefully) get my unfair bank charges back, they have deceided to defend the case and have written to me to ask for my evidence on how I worked the charges out and also an email addy and phone number for myself.
When I sent my second and third letter to the bank I sent along the dates they had taken the money out of my account and the interest for it also. Should I resend it or just ignore this letter?
