Can anyone help,
my boyfriend has been charged quite a few times over the past 6 years for going over his overdraft however he is worried about claiming as he doesn't want to deal with changing his bank account.
As he is changing jobs I have said this is the ideal time to do it but he still doesn't want to claim as he feels he will have a 'black mark' against his name and will never be able to deal with Barclays again. Does anyone know if this is true?

Banks can and some do close accounts so that is why Martin suggests setting up a new account.0 -
Hi there!
Just been reading through getting up-to-date with how everyone is getting on.
Whilst reading I've decided to try and claim back charges from any closed accounts (may as well give it a go)!
When I was about 18 I had 5-6 store cards. Look back now it was stupid considering the interest rate they charge but at the time I didn't really think about things like that.
Anyway, the majority of these store cards (which are fully paid off now) were with G. E. Capital. If I am going to claim from them, would I need to write seperate letters for each store (eg Topshop, Debenhams, etc.) or could I send one letter asking for all my accounts on one list if they were all with the same company?
Hope this makes sense!
Also, has anyone else done this and if so, how did you get on?
Thanks!0 -
Does anybody know whether I can claim back charges from my mortgage account?
I put my house up for sale due to my divorce and stopped paying the mortgage saying I would redeem it once the house was sold. Obviously my mortgage company hit me with late payment charges etc. The real kick in the proverbials was when they charged me 1% or £1800 because I forgot to give them 1 months notice that I was redeeming the mortgage...ouch.
I've just been taken to the cleaners by my ex-wife and have been left to pay off her debt too...I need help, please.0 -
Bank : HSBC
Amount Claimed :£1,079.50
Amount Received: £961.00
I wrote a letter to HSBC using Martins templates dated the 22nd December 2006, received a letter saying they were investigating my claim dated 3rd January 2007, and then received an offer on 12th January 2007 of £961 in full and final settlement of charges applied up to and including 31st December, which i decided to accept.
I can't believe it worked! Thankyou MoneySaving Expert :beer:0 -

Thanks to Martins help within 2 month, 4 letters, 4 stamps and only a little time I reclaimed £575 in unlawful bank charges from Natwest over 6 years. Not as much as others but went a long way in paying for Xmas and without using the dreaded credit cards!
Advice: Be persistant and don't allow yourself to frightened off by their scare tactics. I was just about to take them to the on-line court stage after they hadn't replied within 7 days before the letter, confirming full payment of amount requested, came through the door. Tell everyone its worth the little effort!!!
Thanks Martin!0 -
As a newbie, I would say go all the way, they are trying to put you off, you are not disputing what the charges are for, You are disputing that the amounts are too high, and if the say they are not, then let them prove it! The banks won't disclose what there costs are because they are pence, and it would open up the floodgates for every person to reclaim ex O/D fee's if they did.0
