  • Hi,

I'm sure this has possibly been covered before but, I'm with the HSBC and am expecting my past 6 years worth of bank statements back any day now. I am fully prepared to take them all the way if necessary to reclaim the thousands they've hadd off me in charges. My relationship with them has been bad at best and I'm worried that if i were to get any charges back off them they would shut my account. I am in a situation where I am unable to open another bank account due to my credit rating being so bad and the fact I am currently near the limit of my £1500 overdraft. I have an old savings account with the nationwide (a flex account?) that I haven't used for years is it likely I could change this to a current account?

Also does anyone know how the HSBC have reacted to claims in the past? they are generally less than helpful be it on the phone or in the branch when I have dealt with them so I can't see them being too helpful if I'm trying to get money back.

    Help!

Right, just popped home at lunch and had a package from the bank, they had sent me statements from Oct 03 to Dec 03. I didn't use the template letter from this site as I sent the letter off before I was aware of it. My letter stated about the 6 years worth of statements and the £10 fee but not a lot else. Is this just a diversionary tactic by the bank to fob me off? do I need to have included all the terminology in the template letter? should I start again and send that? also can I claim the £10 back they've charged me for these statements?

Often the statements/information is sent out in separate packages, did you give them the statutory 40 days that have have to comply with this request?

No you can't claim back the £10 as they are entitled to charge this amount for the information.
  • I'm about to start a claim for my bank charges from Barclays, its for about £300. I have a Graduate additions account with a £3000 overdraft, which I am at the limit of most of the time at the moment. I am worried that even if I do get some or all of my money back that they will close the account and ask for full repayment. I cannot afford this, and although I have read that you should get a 'parachute account' just in case, I am not sure that any other bank will let me transfer my overdraft to them as I have a lousy credit score. Can anyone offer any advice on this?
  • All of the banks can and some do close accounts with 28/30 days notice so you need to be prepared for this. There is a thread on Budgeting and Current Account board about finding a basic bank account.

THE BANK IS NAT WEST AND WE CLAIM WILL THEY CLOSE OUR ACCOUNT? COS WITH OUR CREDIT RATING WE PROBABLY WONT BE ABLE TO OPEN ANOTHER! I'D APPRECIATED ANY ADVICE. TODAY IS MY HEAD OUT OF THE SAND DAY AND MY START ON DEBTBUSTING COS MY NERVES WONT HOLD OUT MUCH LONGER. LOOKING FORWARD TO CHATTING WITH YOU ALL. :o

I didn't mention the 40 days in my letter as it wasn't something I was aware of until I was informed of this site. Have to wait and see and see If I get the rest.

Can anyone help me please? I want to reclaim charges from my credit card but I still owe on it, once I have claimed are they within their rights or can they ask for the remaining balacne to be paid in full? As if so I will wait until I have paid it in full before I start the claim. Thanks

HI JUST READ YOUR MESSAGE AND I HAVE JUST POSTED ONE SIMILAR TO YOURS SO IM IN THE SAME BOAT MAYBE WE CAN HELP EACH OTHER ALONG THE WAY WITH ADVICE HAS THINGS HAPPEN. ITS ALL VERY NERVE WRACKING I DONT KNOW IF YOU FEEL LIKE THAT. GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR CLAIM!
  • Very quick update.

Having started my Wifes proceedings against Nationwide I've gleaned from their complaints department that they will ALWAYS say no until they receive court papers.

Halifax (who I got to pay me back £1911) will divide the amount you are claiming into six monthly chunks and then make an offer of the highest six monthly charge period (well I claimed two years worth) so it might be that they will just offer 25%.

I have an influential firmed at Llyods and he is trying to ascertain their policy for me cos he hates the bank charges almost as much as me
