Is it 40 days since you sent them the information they asked for?

Bank: Barclays
Amount Reclaimed: £1,335
Amount they paid: £1,000
I didn't need to ask for my statements as I already had them, so I wrote a letter, or should I say I modified the template letter on this site, asking for a refund of six years of charges. That was on January 8th this year.
Eight days later - on the 16th January - I recieved a standard "We are looking into this and will get back to you within 8 weeks" letter. Two days after that (this morning) I recieved an offer in the post of £1,000 as a goodwill gesture. As it's quite a large percentage of the claim, I am going to accept it.
As it's an old, barely used account, I don't mind if they close it down but they haven't mentioned it so far. In fact the tone of the letter was surprisingly nice: 'Sorry you are not happy... if there is anything further you'd like to discuss or any other issues please contact me.. and a name and direct contact details." Probably standard - but I had geared myself up for some unpleasantness so was quite surprised.
I am now going to claim on my other Barclays account - roughly the same amount. Will keep you posted!
I can't believe how quick and easy this has been and I'm delighted! Just what I needed this month, as it would have been a very tough month without it!!!
I read yesterday (as I'm sure many did) that the financial ombusman are looking into "rip-off bank fees" and will report their findings within 2 months. That will be interesting...
Good luck to everyone claiming... go for it!!!0 -
Could anyone please answer a really basic question that's puzzling me - can I reclaim the standard interest charged on an approved overdraft, or just the extra charges made if you go over the agreed overdraft limit? Thanks.0

Hi All
I have just received a letter from MBNA thanking me for my first letter about claiming back my charges, within the 14 days. They say that they are investigating my complaint and will send a full response by the 5th Feb 2007.
Is this just delaying tack ticks, and should i just send them the LBA
Thanks Dave0 -

Please can someone help? I need to know if I can reclaim the charges I been charged for having been sent a reminder for my payment on a finance agreement for my car? I pay the monthly payments by debit card and on occasion have forgotten to do it by the date, when the finance co send me a letter to remind me they charge me £25. Can I reclaim these like i am reclaiming my bank charges? Surely they too are not a true refection of the cost incurred by the finance company. Please help, ThanksBarclays overdraft £1290
