  • Hi Guys,
I'm sure you've answered this a thousan times but i'm at work so i can't read through everything, can someone please hel ?

Sent my 1st letter to NATWEST on 18th december, receieved nothing back untill Friday when i got a 'Thanks for the letter dated 18/12/06 thanks for being paitent with us, please can you bear with us while we investigate your claim'

Do i send the next letter or wait and see what they say ? it's for £2190
send next letter within your timescales
  • sorry for repeating request but hoping someone can help because I want to get my court allocation form done and sent. 2 worries:
    1. HSBC's defence is that my charges are 'service' charges, I also heard this mentioned on BBCs Money Programme. Is this a new trick they are trying, has anyone experience of this. My feeling is the charges are not service charges as they were added for exceeding my overdraft or card misuse.
    2. Shocked that I have to pay another £100 to go to court but willing to pay especially since I can claim back if (when) I win. But, can the bank claim any costs from me. If so any ideas about what these could be?

    Thanks
i dont think the bank can claim anything back as long as it is delt with by small claims.
  • Hello everyone - my very first question on here! I seem to be lacking the skills to track down the info on here that I am wanting to find...regarding reclaiming unfair bank charges. I still have my FD account open as we were in the process of closing it down and shifting all to the one account when I came across this site. Anyways...back to what I need to know...I sent off the first letter and got my 6 years worth of statements. I have spent this morning highlighting the charges. With 'most' of the pages there is a three part charge of Interest, Overdraft fee and excess overdraft fee.

On the help pages there is an bank charges interest calculator. Now...... do I put the 3 charges in the calculator or just the o/d fee and excess o/d fee added together? Or do I add in the interest charge as well?? e.g. for 16/Nov/01 Interest to 25 Oct 01 £2.45, Overdraft fee £30.00, excess Overdraft fee £15.00 = 47.45 (into the calculator charge amount field???)

Scattered throughout the pages are other listings of Interest to <date> without having a following Overdraft figure.........do I add these in too???

    Cheers for your help here!

    Hello,
Sorry if someone has already posted a similar thing (or if there is another thread that relates to this) but.....

I've written my first and second letter to which they have responded stating that they are looking into the matter and to bear with them (the RBS letter arrived on my door step the same day I sent the second letter). Should I wait for a reply or carry on claiming?

Not sure what to do with RBS as I've been trying to look for people who have successfully claimed against them and there don't seem to be too many stories about them!

Also, my RBS bank account is based in Aberdeen but I live in London. Should I be claiming via the English courts or Scottish courts?

    Many thanks

You can't claim back interest that the bank have charged you for going overdrawn. Ultimately you will need to list each charge, what it is for and the date charged so do each one individually. If you don't understand what a charge is for please phone your bank and ask what term they use for the charges as each bank uses different terminology.

You need to wait until the date is passed that you gave them in your second letter.

As you live in England you can claim via the English courts and use the online system.

    Many thanks for that. :D

Just to clarify another point though......if it says 'overdraft fee or excess overdraft fee' I claim for it as ONE charge event?

Or do I list an excess and a normal overdraft charge as two seperate items if on the same date or can I lump them together under the same date?

(sorry my brain locks down when I get money stressed!!!)
  • Hi there, I'm sure you guys have answered these questions already, but I would really appreciate some guidance!
I'm definitely claiming all my charges back, however, I was wondering if anyone has done so on accounts which are now closed. I have two accounts, one a Cahoot current account which went to a debt collection agency, and one Barclaycard credit card account which is also with a debt collection agency. I am still paying back my Barclaycard debt, so would I still be able to claim any bank charges on this...I'll be using the money to pay off the debt anyway! I have paid back everything I owe on the Cahoot account, so can I reclaim on this aswell?
I'm also going to claim back my charges on my Natwest account which I currently hold. I am concerned however, that they may close my account once I have won my case. Does anyone know of a bank in which I could open an account, preferably with a cheque guarantee, even though I have a CCJ:eek: ?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!
(And good luck to those claiming back!)

What a good question and also........if you are an Executor on a deceased's will......would it also follow that you could claim back on behalf of the estate?? Not planning to but thought it would be interesting to find this out.......!
