  • I notice you've asked a few times about home-working. My mum's recently found a bit of work from home through a site called O-desk. It's like an online temping agency as I understand it, she's been doing some proof-reading - she, like you, has had an inexpected drop in income for medical reasons and this is looking like a bit of a lifeline. There's lots of types of work on there, all stuff that you would do on a computer. Mum did say it was quite complicated to get started, but she's doing ten hours a week now.

i agree about the child maint she should be able to do without but he feels he will be letting his child down ,and doesnt want to be that kind of dad (and in a way ,stupidly i know ,im proud of him for that )

I have no real solution but just some ideas:

Could he "suspend" the child maintenance payment until he returns to work and then make it up over a couple of months ?

Could he have the op on one foot at a time so that he could manage better on crutches with one "good" foot ? He might be able to work then, perhaps his employer could put him on light or sit-down duties for the duration ?

Or postpone the op for a few months, during which time could save enough to tide you over when he doe have the op.

Have you asked you families if they could help you with the bills etc until OH goes back to work and he is able to repay them

Have you asked your bank for an overdraft or a short(ish) term loan ?

  • thanks to the last 3 posters ,nice to get real suggestions ,especially the one about the o-desk work ,was talking to my OH he thinks this would be a great idea.but def cant rent a room out ,not unless someone wants to sleep in the bath lol ,really do only have a 1 bed place otherwise that would be my first option .We have already set up an account on ebay ,got a few things pictured and ready to put on every penny have been counts .We have been discussing the child maint ,and to behonest i would rather work the extra hrs or sell wot we can to make sure his son is provided for .Also will be signing up to quidco and sites like this. The shoppping budget is being slashed to the bare min ,beans on toast for a while i think (im gonna be so skinny by the end of this ,silver linning).Any other suggestions will be greatly appreciated ,especially any other places that allow him to work from home ?

oh and def cant put of the surgery, wish we could

Do consider a slow cooker if you don't already have one, they are about £8 now. You just chuck in cheap cuts of meat, loads of root veg or tinned tomatoes, some soup mix/ potatoes/ lentils/ pearl barley/ rice, stock made up from a cube and switch on for six hours. No need to faff frying things off, takes me five minutes to get a meal on. :T

That's funny! I thought most of these had already been suggested, and dismissed by yourself...
