Most people wouldnt understand the surgery because they have no experiance of it, I do and its not major surgery and being in plaster isnt a major impairment to a young fit man and his employer should find him a job to do in the workplace to allow him to work and earn, thats whats supposed to happen but I bet he hasnt even broached the subject with his employer.

Problem is, he isn't with her now, he is with you, and at this point in time he needs to reduce her payments so he can help you support him.

It's not going to be forever and it's not his fault he needs the surgery - it's just one of those things, and the kids would have to cope with the drop in income if he still lived with them!!

It's great he wants to support them but it's irresponsible to be a martyr about it.

You are taking out your frustration on the benefit system, but it's him you need to be annoyed with.

It's all very well him having principles, but he's asking someone else to fund them. His ex is already being supported by the benefits system and now he wants to take more from the system just so he can bolster her income further...

Can you not see the problem with that?

what kind of dad is he at the moment? How often does he see his child?
Is he paying the money to ease his own conscients?
If he is on crutches now and is working wont he be able to still work with 1 foot in plaster?
    If not, why not?

he is a great dad ,his son lives in dublin yet he makes sure he sees him atleast once a week ,he talks to his son everyday either by phone or web cam. he has always been this way with him ,and hes been consistent his sons whole life .

as for working in plaster ,have u ever been up close and personal with a printing press ?these are monster machines ,he already shouldnt be working anywhere near them just now ,but in plaster its just a risk not worth taking ,id rather work 70hrs a week than see him have an accident.

Yes i am angry at the system because there should be some sort of help out there .

Further unless you are a health professional ,despite your own experiences ,you are not qualified to judge any sort of recovery time or what limitations this will put on my partner .I deal with ppl everyday ,and have to assess the urgency of care that they need (granted with set algos) i couldnt possibly make a judgement like u are without having more than a sentence or 2 of info to go by ? so how can u makes these judgements

No he wouldn't be able to do the job he does now because of health and safety issues. However, as I asked/said before has his employer any other job he could do until he is fit to return to his usual job?

I ask because I was once in a very similar situation (had a knee problem and had surgery, was on crutches for a few months) and a lot of my job at the time was driving which I couldn't do and my employer gave me a job in the office until I could return to my usual job.

I believe many employers do this sort of thing if they can accomodate. What does his employer say that he is going to have this surgery and about the time he needs to be off?
  • employer had to agree to be off ,my partner had to provide medical evidence that was it .As far as his employer is concerned he is going to be signed off for a few months ,hasnt given him any options .to be honest apart from working in the office i dnt think he could do anything else in his workplace ? but dnt really know wot he would do there either? hes a trained printer not a admin worker(plus employer has an office full of staff why would he let him work there if he doesnt need the staff ?)(sorry just thinking out loud really here lol) ,and there is the problem of getting to and from work ,he wont be able to drive ,and i wont have the time to drive him around
