  • af'noon folks :coffee:

since i was last here i have read:

#50/60 Black Swan Green by David Mitchell 4/5 - a great book that reminds me of an 80's version of Ray Bradbury's Dandelion Wine. a keeper.

#51/60 84 Charing Cross Road by Helene Hanff 5/5 - this is the WONDERFUL story of a NYc woman's 20-year correspondence with a rare bookseller in London from 1949. every book lover/collector/hoarder would love it. another keeper.

    i am currently reading:

the sequel to the above: The Duchess of Bloomsbury Street by Helene Hanff

    and i have acquired:

The Leopard by Jo Nesbo (hardback for £1.99!!)
The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making by Catherynne M. Valente

however i don't feel too bad about these as i am trying to collect all the Nesbo ones so i can get started on them (and then set them free!), and the second one was a birthday gift :)

however my husband is starting to get a little twitchy about my library and has started to growl at me for bringing more books into the house than i'm reading (i've been rumbled!), so until the end of the year i VOW to be more strict with myself. exceptions will be gifts (at giftmas) and the 3 remaining Nesbos (if i see them in a CS for cheap.)

hope you are all well and reading like demons :A

  • mornin' all :coffee:

    happy friday!! :)

last night i finished #52/60 The Duchess of Bloomsbury Street by Helene Hanff, which was a lovely sequel telling of her finally getting to visit London in 1971 and seeing all the wonderful literary places she'd read about.

now i have stuffed Alice Hoffman's Blackbird House in my bag, and will start devouring that later.

have a great weekend all. i'm off to see Kate Bush!!!! :j:j:beer:

Had a blissful hour late this afternoon - should have been doing housework but instead I laid on my bed and read my book. Still reading Wives and Lovers. Enjoying it.

  • Hi all, could I join in please? I've seen the thread in the list of challenges before but never looked at it until now. I have lots of books around the house, some read, some unread. I've also sold some over the past year.

I could do with having a good sort out and could begin by finishing a couple that got started and then abandoned!

I'll also read through the thread for some inspiration on sorting/swapping/ selling etc!!!

Whoop can't wait to get started!

    Hey hummingbird!

Don't ask, just jump straight in! :D

Best of luck with the sorting/finishing of books you have started. We have all been there. I had to get ruthless about a month ago. I made a lot of books homeless! :(

Let us know how you get on! :)

  • well, I went to a charity fair in the big town on a day out with a friend yesterday - and failed...I bought Russel Kane's"The Humorist, which I had my eye on for years since I heard an interview with Russel. I'm really looking forward to it . On a good note, I mananged to leave 2 new Jamie Oliver books behind, that's something for me!

  • Right, I've retrieved "Twenties Girl" by Sophie Kinsella which I've read up to about chapter 7.

Looking forward to finishing it. I'm going to make this author my first target as I have several books of hers which I've read that are still in the cupboard somewhere and can go to the charity shop. Also a couple of others which I never got round to starting.

  • I finished Dear Lupin over the weekend. Very easy to read book and the letters were entertaining. The only problem I found was although there was a little written after each letter to explain what was going on at the time it wasn't enough in most cases to really put the letters in context.
I'm starting The Amazing Story Of Adolphus Tips by Michael Morpurgo next. The last one was a library book so its time for one off the tbr pile and this one has been there for years

I realise that September has not been a reading month... Well it has but more Debt Free Diaries than books in my collection :o

So New beginnings today as I will never reach my Good reads target by the end of the year.

So I am pledging to myself I will focus on Undersong - Listening to the Soul by Peter B. Price which I started in August :eek:

    Happy reading ......

  • I have had a new count up and had to reevaluate my to read list - I have 96 books on my to read pile. That is not including Kindle books or ones that at some point I will borrow from my mum. It could take a while!! Though I have read at least 3 on the bus this month (all fairly short but it gets them off the pile)
