I've finished Darkly dreaming Dexter, back to watching season 6 and 7 now ;). The book was an easy read.
I've started "The Devotion of Suspect X" , a Japanese thriller I picked up during a hospital visit from a charity stall. Good start, easy flow. It will go to DD2 who loves everything Japanese.

  • I read The Lucky One by Nicholas Sparks on holiday but it's on my kindle so I can't count it as a read book. I have loved all of his books so far and this one didn't disappoint. My OH laughed at my frustrations at the Sheriff character and at my need to read the last 20pages before we Ewing for dinner because I couldn't stand the suspense to reach the end!! Watched the film when I got home and was quite disappointed in it compared to the book

  • Thanks InAPickle. I had 145 unread books on my kindle. I read two yesterday by Elly Griffiths (one was a short story) so down to 143 now.

Waving madly, days seem to be running away with me.

Well I have become addicted to Goodreads and putting all my books on there. I have a very long list of "acquiring" mostly from this thread lol.

i am dipping in and out of several books at the mo. Must admit I needed a bit of light relief, so acquired Hidden Treasures by Fern Britten on Kindle and although want sure of her writing at first , I got hooked on the story as you do a soap and really enjoyed it.

Target for the next 24 hours is Forgotten Voices of WW1 to finish......

    Hi everyone.
I need to rejoin as the to read pile seems to have grown!!
Have people found it helpful to list all the books you have to read. It would be a mammoth task but I wonder if it would help me to resist the temptation of getting more.

Hi Jellie! To answer your question, I don't think listing unreads would help me as it's just too many! I think I was a shopaholic for books when the kids were little and I'm still catching up from what I bought then (mind, the oldest DD is leaving home next month! ) or later when it was hard to resist out of habit...I had won £ 200 worth of books at a book club in 2000 (I think) and I had to spend that credit withing a few months...Then I started a NY-resolution not to buy any more book and the piles still keep growing as people give me books, so I have to learn to say "No" which is really hard. Still, the resolution, going now for year 4, has helped the most. I am saying to myself when tempted "Just STOP here". Last one I bought was a cookery book I am actually using, so no harm done ....and before it was a couple of work-related reference books.
Anyway - good luck with reducing your pile! It's such a lovely thread.:T

    Waving

I have had for a very long time a large excel spreadsheet with the majority of my books recorded. As I have severe trouble often choosing what to read next, then consequently buying one. I started reading by alphabetical order of authors first names:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:.mu husband thinks I am mad!

I do often have several on the go.... Biography, history, and a novel etc so I don get stuck on one author or genre :T

It does give me great satisfaction when I mark them as read, and now that I am trying to declutter (exchanging a book case for a wood burner !!!!) I am listing them on GreenMetropolis or taking to charity shops. Unless a real favourite which I keep, although having said that I am treating myself to the occasional Kindle replacement of those I read time and time again.

From this thread I have discovered Good Reads and am transferring my excel spreadsheet to there... Even more fun is the yearly challenge. I am one away from half way of the yearly challenge :T;)

So I would say go for it......
