Watching the WW1 coverage - I think of the extract from Forgotten Voices of the Great War which I am currently reading.

"After th initial enthusiasm and patriotism came a wave of quietness, because then the first death lists were published in the papers. And my mother - she was English - was suddenly surrounded by women of the regiment, the wives of the other officers of course, and most of them - because my father's regiment was one of the first to march over the border into Belguim - were widows. And even as a child, I must say, it gave me a great shock to see that most of the officers were dead and killed during the first weeks. A lot of the youngest soldiers were dead and the whole feeling of enthusiasm faded away very quickly, in my opinion. The world became grey after that.

im just about to log off as going to try and get everything done for lights out at 10pm apart from a small lamp for hope in the darkness, in memory of the fallen.

was really bad today borrowed 2 books off DD2 and bought 6 in various CS - she made me do it honestly.
ive already read one of the ones i borrowed off her weird things customers say in bookshops, some of the quotes were quite funny.

My Wish list is getting as long as my unread list!

So currently on the go.....

1. Delicate Truth - John Le Carre - finding this not engaging as I first thought... Ep wanting to say get on with it!
2. forgotten Voices of the Great War, transcriptions from verbal records - very moving so doing a few pages a day
3. undersong - Peter B Price - this is about Christian spirituality and is in part study/interest book so again a few pages a day

Then to spice life up abit I have dug out my library card and I have reserved "Round about a Pound a Week"

I was also tempted with an audio book.... To encourage me to start my de- stashing craft projects

So cough a long with fines a fiver later..... (However I feel less guilty as I used my 20p collection. I reward myself when I use up something.... 30p for toiletries, stationery etc, as I keep buying more etc )

got 2 on the go now, still reading the other half of me by morgan mccarthy but have borrowed the happiness project by gretchen rubin off DD2 and am really enjoying that. she set herself the task of becoming happier in a year so the book is like a diary of the various tasks and projects she set herself and how they work out.

Also, I've just finished a book called Molecules of Emotion: Why You Feel the Way You Feel. It Is very interesting. The second half needs re-reading to get it. But the idea behind it is very, very interesting.

Finished "Blossom" now, what a delightful non-fictional read . DD1 has started it now on her Kindle.
I'll finish Dexter soon then have a lot of books to choose from, will keep you posted

I'd pledged to read 30 this year on goodreads, im at 24 so hoping i should better that. in an attempt to keep me on track i went through the TBR shelf and selected enough books to get me to 30 a couple of months ago and put those in my bedroom so i can only pick from those (ive done a mix of books including some that have been in the stash forever.) since doing this i have borrowed a couple of books and i hate to hang on to loaned ones too long so ive already read one and am working on the other. i think as i get to the last couple of books its going to be tempting to sneak something more appealing off the big shelves.
