I finished reading atom's Midnight Garden on the bus the other day. I didn't start another one with so few days left (and being so tired) so I've been looking at 100 ideas for early years teachers to get some a good ideas in the bag for next year. Now it's the holidays I'm hoping to make progress with my proper books pile. There's plenty of them. I'm rereading Harry Potter at the moment which is why I switched to Kindle books as HP is just too heavy for the handbag once you get to book 5!

  • Hello!

I found about this group from Mrs Moneypenny's signature line on a post in the crafting forum. May I join in, please?

I think between Sir and I we own about a thousand books and, before the next move, I'm hoping to cut that down by 20-30%. The novels (mostly classics) are easy to dispense with as those I want to read again I'll be replacing for free on a Kindle (booked one for next year's anniversary pressie!:D). I have some kid's stories too and most of those will stay.

My main 'want to work down somehow' section is non-fiction, esp. language learning texts, embroidery/arts books and some maths and science. I must confess to having bought 3 new 'Practice Makes Perfect' French workbooks just this week (waiting for them to arrive now....), but I will be using them soon. Looking at my learning shelves, I'm expecting to work through as many as 50 of them over the next year or two and many will be lost through passing on to other people who are interested in the same languages, selling and part-recycling/part-donating. I have a number of Open University courses that I'm reading through and they have a quantity of notes and study guides with them that will probably go in the paper bins soon.

So, that's my quest really. That and to read the classics that I haven't yet considered replacing on my future Kindle. I'll come up with a list and so on some time soon.:)

I haven't been on here for quite a while but I'm still reading when I can and still getting distracted by library books! Although I have just finished Funerals for horses by Catherine Ryan Hyde which has been on my shelf for ages.
I have now started I am Pilgrim after having it recommended twice in 2 days - so far v.good :)

finished all the things we didnt say, enjoyed it but it was a very complex family and had lots of family issues and depression in it.

gone back to Eddie Izzard 'dress to kill' now as i started it forever ago and seem to keep avoiding him in favour of fiction.

    Hi everyone!

It's been a while since I posted but I've made fair progress. I've read quite a few, probably about 14 books (mostly KIndle ones but some paperbacks so de-cluttering a little!) most recently Gone Girl which I devoured. Disappointing ending IMO though.

I've also added a fair few to my Kindle (8 :o) however only spent 99p so can't complain. Beach holiday later this month so I will get time for lots of reading then.

Now I've found you all again I will try to post more regularly :)

welcome back sundaysgirl. i have to agree with you there i thought the ending spoilt the book because it was a bit of a damp squib after everything that happened.

Finished the colour of law. If you like John Grisham then you would like Mark Ginemez. Took another one of his away with me - Con Law - didn't get time to read as much as I thought I would so only about 1/3rd way throught it. Had a go at Fatherland by Robert Harris but didn't get on with it - my aunt and uncle enjoyed it. Has anyone else read it?
Bagged up some books to take down to my mums for them to be passed around amongst family and her neighbours-
