Welcome, welcome! :) I particularly like your last sentence. Perhaps we should adopt it as out slogan. Or we could adapt the lyrics to 'I Will Survive'.

We Will Survive: The Anthem for Surviving the Lure of Bookshops

    At first I was afraid,
    I was petrified.
Kept thinking I could never live
    without more by my side.
But I spent oh so many nights
thinking how I did them wrong:
    I grew strong.
I learned how to carry on.
    And so I'm back
    from Waterstones:
I just walked in to find them here
with that sad look upon their face:
I should have changed my reading ways
I should have made me read them all.
If I had known for just one second
they'd still be here ten years or more...

[Chorus] Go on now, go, I'll go no more,
    to the bookshop:
    new books aren't welcome anymore.
Weren't you the ones who tried to lure me with your guile?
    You think I'd crumble?
You think I'd sit down and buy?
    Oh no, not I:
    I will survive.
    As long as
    I know how to read,
    I know I'll stay alive:
I've got all my life to live
I've got all my books to give
    And I'll survive...
    In book denial!

It took all the strength I had
    not to fall apart.
    Kept trying hard to mend
the pieces of my broken heart.
And I spent oh so many nights
    just feeling sorry for myself.
    I used to cry
Now I hold my head up high.
    And you see me:
    Somebody new...
I'm not that person still addicted to
    books oh-so new.
Shops want me always dropping in
and just expect me to be free,
Now I'm saving all my loving
for old books that stood by me [Repeat chorus]

Last week I finished two books that were sitting unread on my shelf. Phantom and Police, both by the brilliant Jo Nesbo. So now I'm going to ask for some more books for my birthday :)

EMMAP - I have just managed to get The Leopard and Phantom (very cheap from *bay) and only need Cockroach and Police and then I will have finished the series, if the weather turns out as bad as forecast for the next week I am looking forward to hunkering down with The Leopard.

  • Just finished Zadie Smiths "on beauty" not really my kind of book to be honest, which is probably why it has taken me a while to finish it. Looking forward to starting a new one tomorrow :-)

have finished Knit one Kill two by Maggie Sefton. I really enjoyed it and am looking forward to reading the next one.

Have quite a few to choose from so not sure what I will read next. Might go for the next Maggie Sefton or maybe Beth Harbison 'confessions of a shoe addict' - subject close to heart lol.
  • Just started reading Jessi-cat, a story about a young boy with selective mutism and his relationship with his cat. Was bought it a Chrstmas present from my cousin, once I'm finished I will lend it up her to read...we are constantly book swapping!

Another huge Jo Nesbo fan here :hello: have read all bar the latest one so will ask for this from Santa Claus rather than giving into temptation and buying it :A

This weekend I finished The Perfume Collector by Kathleen Tessaro - a light read but really enjoyed it, a great Kindle freebie but unfortunately price has gone back up.

Also started (and devoured) Everything and Nothing by Araminta Hall - a paperback given to me which has sat on the shelf for a good few months.

Going to pick another paperback next - really want to get through these in an attempt to de-clutter, so planning to take several on hols with us later this month.

ETA: I have been naughty and added a few more freebies (from the freebie board) to my Kindle this weekend, but no spend/clutter so limited guilt! Will try to be good and read some older ones first!

Had a bit of a cacky day today, sooo....to cheer myself up a bit bought myself a (cs) book, Instructions for a heat-wave by Maggie O'Farrell. Read a couple of her books in the past and enjoyed them so, looking forward to this one. It could of potentially been much worse in honesty, I could have gone into the independent bookshop.

Since counting my 'books to read' total originally I have managed to find at least 5 other books hidden around the house, I intend to have a proper recount tomorrow!

    Happy reading Merry
