Hi everyone! Not sure when I was last active on here but I really need to get back on the wagon! My bookcase is overflowing (really need to start selling some of them off) and I've just ordered 6 more books! Ok, so 2 of them are for book club but still! As of today, no more (unless they are book club reads) until I've finished the to-read pile. I have a goodreads account and really need to update it. Currently reading The Fry Chronicles and Don Quixote and I know which I prefer.Emergency Fund - £8572.39 / £10,000 :: Mortgage OP 2025 - £LISA 24/25 - £3200 / £4000 :: NSD 2025 - 2 / 150 :: Books Read: 1 / 52 :: Decluttering - 4 / 1000Engaged 9th December 2010 :: Married 29th October 2015 :: Bought a House 13th January 20170

Hello. I am new and feeling like a need to take baby steps but just subscribed to this challenge.
No books bought throughout August 2014 despite holiday season. However was given a load of fab books and read two. The one hundred year old man who climbed out of a window and Apple Tree Yard.
Decided instead of buying books when I am tempted by amazing reviews or deals I will add to a wish list (amazon.) Then should I be asked what I would like for a pressie for birthday or Christmas I can simply produce my wish list. Am I being too optimistic?
Thank you for setting me on the right pathway.
I think I need to create my signature now.
Also altering NSD behaviours. No alcohol or chocolate unless its the weekend in a bid to save money.
Debt needs seriously tackling with my plan to be debt free before 50.:oLBM August 2014: £16430.26
CC - £2300
Loan - £2407
Zopa - £6679
Total:£113680 -

Home from a night away with work, took a couple of my goodreads prizes with me and got one of them read, and finished another last week while in the car headed to London so am taking Anna Black's I'm doin Me off my tbr list and Laura Purcell's Queen of Bedlam.
The Anna Black book I've had a while and wasn't sure about but it really surprised me, much better than I expected, and I really enjoyed Queen of Bedlam, quite similar in to Phillipa Gregory as it was historical fiction based on historical fact - in this case three of the women around 'Mad' King George, his wife and two of his daughters. It’s not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren’t doing it.

Morning
Finished a book on my shelves that I've had for ages. Here is my review from Good Reads
"As a work of literature, Jane Lapotaire's book is possibly the most ambitious of them all...... Brave and bracing' - Mail on Sunday. This is mostly the story of the year that followed from the day Jane suffered a cerebral haemorrhage.
I must admit, the first half of the book I found uncomfortable, I didn't like Jane, her attitudes towards all those around her, but as I read more I began to realise that perhaps it was hitting to close to home. She Really does tell you warts and all what it is like to go from a driven always on the go women, financially and physically independent in her world, to being left with neither, no money and relying on others around her for the simplest of things.
The later half of the book I found very interesting as she talked about the psychological tools that she was using to overcome her fatigue in particular.
A powerful story and I would say very enlightening to individuals and there carers who are going through a similar journey, and also for those who suffer like me from CFS.
I am not sure still whether I liked her, I wanted her to show more compassion and humility... As she recovered. I am considering reading her previous books, as I got the impression that she has never got over the abandonment of her mother.
She was wonders at the end whether she will be able to manage the stage again.... She did in Richard 11 which I saw at the Barbican...As a dear MSE friend says “keep plodding” or
What does the saying say.... When life hands you lemons, make lemonade
Or as my Mum would say, brush yourself down, tomorrow is another day or
