Meh - as a teacher, as long as there's a name, the correct name (when jumpers are on owner number three and I don't realise the Smith family actually all have the Jones family old uniform with no changed names in there) - I just rejoice at the simple nameyness being in there! (Especially with those kids who shed clothing everywhere and leave the jumpers they've used for goalposts out on the school field at the end of every breaktime)

Laundry marker pens hun! if no handy labels to write on (or the're secondhand) then buy some curtain tape and write on that then sew into garments. neck is best as teachers dont have time to check all the seams!

Biro washes out pretty quickly - speaking from bitter experience trying to reunite 30 jumpers with 30 children on a hot summer's day. If you biro them - you have to keep on checking that the writing's still legible, I can guess a lot of faded names in jumpers but I can't work miracles!

Yes it does fade but I always glance in the collars/waists when I iron them so just go over it if need be. It's just that I can NEVER find the sharpie pen when I actually need it, so the biro is normally a temp measure until i find the sharpie, then again knowing how organised I am it can be a permanent measure LOL

You work in my sons school then :rotfl::rotfl: it's usually jumper on side and the coat the other. Best bit is when it pours with rain and no kind soul brings them in! we then rescue them at hometime soaking wet. Tho now he's yr 6 this does appear to be a thing of the past I HOPE!!!!!

Pen. Either the special ones or a permanent writing pen.

Although... don't know why I bother, they still end up in a box in the janitors office or going missing or the name magically changing.

Yes this annoys me too, we get told again and again mark their stuff, only for it be put in lost property. I wouldn't midn if we had a common surname ( thats all I put in uniform) But we don't.
I suppose it's the time logicstics??? returning uniform would probably need a full timer???:rotfl:
  • I need to put my sons name into some of his clothes as he is going to pre-school in september. I just googled 'name tapes' and there are hundreds of sellers to choose from.
Where is the best/best for my money place to get them?
I am happy to sew them in - I think the sew in ones will be better anyway?? and how many do I buy?? I might as well get a lot as I will be sewing them into uniform this time each year for the next few years :o. but how many??
Also I need a pen to write his name in wellies/shoes .. where is the best place to get one of those?
Sorry this is all new to me! Please can all the experienced mums please help me :D

Last year I got mine from here http://homeshopping.24studio.co.uk/back-to-school/fun-games/personalised/1/personalisedirononclothinglabels/7
you can order online or request a catalogue to be sent out. I think they are £3.99 for 100, but they are the iron on type.

You place them on the garment, put a cloth over and hold the iron on for 10 seconds. They stayed on for the whole year, none peeled off even after constant washing, they become quite soft once ironed on and weren't at all scratchy which is what I was worried about. I've always just used a biro inside the top of the wellies and it has never come off yet.
    :hello:

I've merged this with a similar longer thread that has lots of good ideas on marking clothes :)

I always used a laundry pen

I've bought some from here: http://www.gbnametapes.co.uk/

There seem to be gazillions of label stores online!
