Sew-On Woven Tapes at a low price?

I laugh when you see the kids of teachers get to school - they've got name tapes in everything down to their knickers half of the time! Our old school secretary got to the point where she wouldn't sell parents new school sweatshirts without handing over the biro at the same time to write the name on the label - think she'd reached saturation point with people asking her to track down missing jumpers!Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0

Hello,
I am soon to go back to work after maternity leave and my children are going to be going to nursery full time. The nursery have asked that all of their belongings are labelled so have had a look online but cannot believe the number of choices so don't really know where to start. What do you all use? I was thinking of buying one of the value packs that include stickers to go in their shoes and on bottles etc and iron on lables for their coats and hats (I can't think of anything else I will need to use iron on for at the moment or am I being a bit thick?). Do iron on labels come off with a bit of persuasion or can you iron on more labels on top? It's just that everything that belongs to my eldest now will belong to my youngest this time next year so need to be able to change the labels.
So really my question is, which type of labels do you all use and which company would you suggest I buy them from. These two seem good:

but although the labels in the first one seem prettier you dont get as much for your money and pretty shouldn't really be relevant should it. On the other hand, if they are both going to cost me the same, does it matter how many are included as will I ever really need 75 stickers and 75 iron on labels per child?
Any advice would be appreciated.

I bought the embroidered ones as I thought I will be using them for years.
When stuff is too small, I unpick them and re use....very MSE
Depending on the names, I have seen ones that have (for example) Sam Smith John.
Idea being that for Sam, you turn under the John and then for John, you move it to show Smith John.
Or, if you have an unusual surnmae, you could just use that.
The sticky labels don't always last in shoes and then there is trainers etc.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0 -
I bought the embroidered ones for both my children as I think they stay on better than the iron on. I have just ordered these on ebay for my grandaughter and they were great.

I find it really hard when working and looking after children and doing all the other things I do as a mum and 'wife' to take the time to sew names into everything and the iron labels do tend to come off, so i use a laundry marker pen, then you can do it with each new item of clothing and hats and shoes etc

A friend who has far too many children to be sewing constantly, with all boys & quite an unusual name just has 'A Hollister Boy' on her tags.

Thanks to all for your replies. I like the idea of unpicking and re using and also hadn't thought of looking on ebay. I have now had a look on ebay and again can't believe the choices but quite like the look of some sew in ones that you just sew on the one side (time saving!) and they are meant to be very soft which is good as my eldest has sensitive skin. So I may buy a bundle which includes 50 sew ins, 50 iron ons and 50 shoe stickers. I think if I am going to reuse them then I must get the ones with either no motif or one that isn't too childish so as they grow they won't care (although they are only 18 months and 6 months so the unpicking may have killed the labels off ages before they care!).
Oh and sparkle03, I so know what you mean re being too busy to faff with sewing things in. Fortunately sewing is a job that is done by Daddy in this house so I don't have to worry about adding to my list of tasks on this one!Current Debt - [strike]£38000[/strike] [strike]£32000[/strike] [strike]£28500[/strike] [strike]£22000[/strike] [strike]£16000[/strike] [strike]£10000[/strike] [STRIKE]£1500[/STRIKE] £14000:eek:0 -

Hi All,
V hectic here - Have just moved house this week, found out am pregnant with number 2 (v bad nausea), done no Xmas shopping, DD starts school in Jan - still got to get all uniform and still surrounded by boxes.
Does anyone know what the best deals on "name tapes" for uniforms are? I usually do the mse shopping around, but don't have time or energy at momemt, and was hoping that some lovely mse folks can help me out. I know there are loads of companies that do them - can anyone recommend a good deal?
many thanks.0
