At the risk of being shot down, I know of several people who have the £9.99 package.
I have also been offered AOL talk for free several times, but I'm tied to a contract with a phone provider, so have not been able to take advantage of this offer.
I found out about the offer from the forums on http://www.thinkbroadband.com/

Maybe things have changed now, but deanos and I know know what broadband we've got and if you'd looked at the start of this thread, you'll see the deal we got was widely available. Only a couple of months ago, someone I know got the £9.99 deal when they threatened to cancel.

Well I rang them three times in the last few days and I wasn't offered the £9.99 deal once. The CS was awful, they promised to look at price plans and email them to me and they didn't. It was only when I asked for my MAC they did anything!

I was happy with AOL because the 1Mbps for £14.99 I got was mostly solid but when you read of others getting 8Mbps for £9.99 it's makes you unhappy. Stir a bit of bad customer service into it and it makes you mad.

I am looking for a solid 3Mbps (max on my line) and good CS for about £15 and I have found there are plently of ISP's that rate better than AOL

If AOL had offered me £9.99 I would have stayed with them;)
  • i'm on aol silver .. getting 1.5 m .. at £9.99 .
I contacted them a few weeks ago to get the £6.99 offer .. saying i was quite happy givinfg them my landline & calls .. (don't use them .. just my mobile minutes suffice) .

They advised that because my exchange hasn't got their equipment .. i'd soon be getting notification that the price would increase to £17.99 ... but sign up now for 18 months .and they would give 6 months more at 9.99 before the 17.99 took effect . I've had a number of email conversations with them and they say it is totally non negotiable .

(iconic .. looks like this may be why you had the offer )

i've checked samknows... and no one else has equipment in the exchange, so the 15.99 of bt etc seems to be cheapest.

I seem to remember that when I took out the £9.99 deal, they said it was for life.
I'll try to find the terms and conditions.

I am in the same position as you. You can get a cheaper rate but you might not get the same speed or Usage limit (Cap). I might pay a couple of quid more if I get get my speed increased and better CS!

I am not sure about BT because you have to sign up for 12-18months.

Idnet, Newnet and ADSL24 been recommened from the list below....has anyone got any other recommendations?

I have very close links with CPWN, Talk Talk and AOL Broadband

Ahh, perhaps your the person that I need to speak to, can't seem to get anywhere with anyone else at AOL, I've been trying to stop AOL from attempting to take payment from me for a closed account, my previous post on this forum -

"I can't stop AOL trying to take money from me, I quit them back in august but they still keep approaching my bank for payment via direct debit.

Needless to say, the DD has been cancelled, but despite having got a cancellation code from them, contacting them via numerous phone calls and emails they still keep trying..

Their excuse is that it's a "technical error
    "

Any help would be greatly appreciated :D

  • I think I've been had:mad: I rang up AOL in Jan, wanting to cancel and get a mac code but the agent said I could have the silver package at £9.99 for the next 18 months. I checked today and my bill had gone up to £14.99 - rang them up (twice) and each time I got told that I had agreed that the £9.99 was only for the first 6 months:confused: He then tried to get me to agree to another 12 month contract where I'd be paying £12.99 a month as long as I agree to take the phone service.
My exsisting contract ends in July 09 - is there anything I do to end my contract early and move to a new ISP - I feel I've been treated really badly by them over this.
    feeling lucky?

Well surely if they told you it would be £9.99 for 18 months and then stuck another £5 on there after 6 months then it's a breach of contract on their part? I would think that, anyways.

Good luck, with it, whatever happens.
