I don't need rapid fast downloads either. Today had a thought about what the extra £8 month x 12 can go towards. I'm having trouble getting travel insurance for Europe that will cover my heart problem so this money can pay some of the extra premium.
  • I saw this on the board too, so I contacted them via the live help option (as I can be more cheekier online!)

They were very willing to put me on the £9.99 price plan with everything else being the same ( I am on Silver Pkge). The only snag was the 12 mth contract, but hey ho wasn't planning on changing provider anyway!

I then requested the wireless router, even though I dont need one! I just wanted to be like everyone else! They said I could either pay £25 and stay on £9.99 priceplan or have it free for a £14.99 priceplan.

I decided to leave the router and now enjoy AOL Silver for £9.99 p/mth a MASSIVE £8 discount p/mth....YIPPEE!

Do you still get 1 month free?

Routers come with an Ethernet cable and most will auto-sense for straight or crossover cables.

This post here tells you what you need to do to to make it secure. It is quite easy to set up and once done it can then be forgotten. Don't be put off by all of the words, just a few simple steps and it's done. Any problems, post in the Techie Stuff forum for help. This simplified version outlines what you need to do but you should now use WPA-PSK encryption rather than WEP encryption described here.

If you dont intend to use the wireless part of the router just go into the settings and turn the wi-fi off :)

Just got off the phone with AOL and they refused to budge on any offer for the platinum or gold. They did say the silver at £9.99 is available to me and gold at £19.99 or platinum at £24.99. Can someone confirm that they have the gold at £14.99 and platinum at £19.99?
