I ordered a DSLR on 29 December 2013 because Simply Electronics were 24% cheaper than Amazon. Skrill took the payment and I was told I would receive the camera within 4-10 working days.

I then came across this thread and the posts here got me quite worried, especially because my Order Status was "Stock Allocation: We are arranging stock for your order. You can expect dispatch in the coming days." but the item page for the camera on their site said "10 Units In Stock Usually dispatched in 2-3 business days". So, worried, I contacted them on 7 January and they replied within 24 hrs to say the item was shipping.

I got a DPD tracking number on 10 Jan and received the item on 13 Jan which was 10 working days if you include the NYE Bank Holiday. The camera was the UK Version (although it came from Hong Kong) and was in perfect condition.

So, all in all, I'm a very satisfied customer and I'll be buying again from them shortly as they have a Canon lens that is 30% cheaper than Amazon. I thought I'd join the forum and post this to hopefully reduce the stress of anyone who's bought from them and is having second thoughts - I don't doubt that other members have had bad experiences and I may have just been lucky but they are capable of good service.

You wouldn't be another one posting on behalf of Simply Electronics, would you? :)
  • DO NOT USE!!! I ordered my son a mobile phone a couple of weeks before Christmas and cancelled it the same day and asked for a refund. Cutting a long story short it has taken me six weeks to get the money back and only because I have threatened them with trading standards. I had to call a number which they were making money out of so I went on to 'Say no to 0845' (thanks Martin) and the number to use is 0115 871 4466 so please use this if you have been conned into using them as I was kept waiting over an hour. Good luck!

After reading this post, I crossed my fingers, used a credit card for added protection and ordered a IPad Air to save myself £100. Simply Electronics state that dispatch is usually 4-10 days. OK, mine took 16 days to arrive but I was kind of expecting that. I sent 3 emails to the customer service to check on status and I recived a reply within 12 hours, I actually thought the service from simply electronics was pretty good and I saved £100.... very happy. My advise would be that if you are not in hurry, use a credit card and give them the odd prod :) Oh and don't forget to pray. I will use them again :)

Just checked and if you say working days then my IPad did actually take 10 days :)

Yet another one-post wonder? Posting on behalf of Simply Electronics perhaps? ;)

It's hardly a gleaming review is it? I am not recommending you use them, just that I took precautions and will use again... maybe, but if you still don't believe me then pm me and I'll reply from my work email. Maybe you have the vendetta and have nothing better to do?
  • Please don't buy anything from this store. It is a SCAM! I purchased an iPhone for my niece for Christmas on the 9th December 2013. It said 10 days delivery. By Christmas Eve it still was not here. I contacted Simply Electronics who told me it was due for delivery. When I asked if it would be here before Christmas they told me to 'Please be patient'. Nearly 3 months on and I still have not received a refund from them. Absolutely gutted that I was roped in and that I never read these reviews before hand!!! I have contacted them on at least fifty different occasions and they have told me that the refund is in process. I'm not sure I will get the money back now and it was nearly £500! Sad dad face! Please please be aware!
  • Trading Standards should ban this company from trading in the UK or trying to trade in the UK. People should write letters to trading standards or consumer advice and tell them of their experiences.

I bought an expensive full frame Canon Camera from them and a lens separately but both on the 16th of December 2013. I sent them a an email letter on the 19th asking for an update for both of my orders. They sent me a template reply.

On the 24th of December did receive my Camera kit and because I was desperate I had to accept it by paying a £50 charge from customs. This was when I realised that the company operates out of Hong Kong.
(I called their number to dispute this but their phone lines did not work until 7-8th of January).
After several emails and phone call tries I still have not received a refund of £50, but worse I have not received the refund for my lens. They tried delivering it after xmas but by then it was too late and I refused to accept the delivery which was also accompanied by a customs charge.
The Lens cost £550 and I am out of pocket. I have raised this with the Credit Card company and they are dealing with the matter. So technically I am short £600 currently because of SimplyElectronics.net
Their customer service is non existent. Their phone lines are expensive to ring and you hold for ages even with their ring back service.
The camera I received was not a UK version but a Far East (Chinese probably) version. It came with a non UK plug. Im not even sure if I have a warranty with it. But judging by their customer service I would say its non existent too.

Simply Electronics are simply one of the worst companies I have had to deal with. They stall you for time thinking you would stop trying to get a refund and I imagine some people get so fed up that they don't pursue it. Its now February and they havnt even bothered to respond to my recent emails. This was one of the last responses I had which is a template response. "Thank you for your email.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused to you.

We do understand how you feel about this concern, however,we would like to inform you that your account is currently in process by the relevant department. We are still waiting for the update coming from them regarding this. All the information needed has already been forwarded to the relevant department. As soon as we got the latest update from them, we will immediately send out an email confirmation to you.

Your extended patience and understand is highly appreciated.

    Thank you.

    Best Regards,"
  • Do not touch this company. Yes their products are cheaper and if all goes to plan with your order you may be lucky however the canon camera i bought has come with a very dodgy overseas charger that I have to use three different adapters with to charge the battery in the UK. Not only that I found I had to pay import tax on the delivery. Their so-called "customer services" told me they would refund it however a month and a half later after chasing them a number of times and after sending them the receipt for payment they keep coming up with other forms of documentation I need to send them before they'll refund it. Utter farce and would never ever use again
  • Hi

I have problems with this company over the last couple of months. I ordered an IPAD Air and case which they duly sent out (good). However DPD they proceeded to lose the said item (bad). After watching their site and the parcel number not move I contacted them and after getting through to their Executive Office I found someone who would help and they confimed that it had been 'lost'. They then sent Simply Electronics the necessary information.

Unfortunately SE decided to ignore this and the many emails I sent stating that I knew the item had been lost. I was continually fobbed off either with the excuse the parcel is on its way (looking at the DPD site which I already had done myself) or that theyu were looking into the problem.

After coming to the end of my patience I contacted the Trade and Industry Department and also the Commerce and Economic Bureau Department in the Hong Kong Government!!! SUCCESS. The secretary of the Commerce and Economic Bureau contacted me and stated that the have a department that deals with complaints from abroad!! It is called the CONSUMER COUNCIL. She forwarded my details on to them and they were in contact with me a day later. They sent SE a letter and guess what they have told the Consumer Council and myself that a refund has been initiated!!!!

I suggest that if anyone is having problems with a refund or anything else email the Consumer Council with your reference number from SE and a quick guide of what has gone on. The email address is cc@consumer.org.hk. If a number of people do this it might make the Council investigate SE and might improve their customer services!!!!

Any questions please just ask!!! I am willing to help anyone in this matter.
  • Hi there
