You wouldn't be another one posting on behalf of Simply Electronics, would you? :)

    Hah! :)

I realise it looks a bit suss that I only came here to post that but this thread got me really worried after I had ordered (and was awaiting delivery). I wanted to just add some balance and, hopefully, put some people's minds at rest if, like me, they were just worried.

I'm not saying other people should buy from them - and by some of the posts on here there are definitely worries about Simply Electronics - but just noting that I had no problems and got a really good deal.

I would buy from them again.

Despite all the warnings posted on this thread? That's a bit suss.

You went to the trouble of signing up with MSE to make just 2 posts - one in January and one today - purely to tell us that despite all the warnings on the thread you made a successful purchase?

I wonder how many people are going to believe what you say? :)
  • Please, Please, Please do not use this company. I don't normally go to any length to post any comments about anyone on forum sites but feel I need to in order to protect others from what I have been through.
I ordered 2 I-pad's on the 5th of December 2013 which were meant to be Xmas presents. the money was taken from my account immediately. A couple of days later I received some rather strange e-mails which made me wonder and question if this was a legitimate company. As a result I did some digging and found this site where I read some very frightening reviews. As a result I decided to cancel both products which I did on the 12th of December 2013 and prior to the products being dispatched.
Since then my life has been hell dealing with this company. I have sent approximately 50 e-mails demanding my refund and have made approximately 30 phone calls (dread to think how much that will cost me) in order to get my refund back.
Several weeks on they have refunded me for one of my I-pads but not the other. It is now the 12th of Feb 2014 and I am still waiting for a refund from this company. Every time I phone them I get told that my refund is being processed as a priority and that it will be processed in the next 3 days. The last time I spoke to them was 2 weeks ago and still no refund. I have asked several times to speak to a supervisor and each time I have been told they don't have supervisors. This company should be closed down and struck off and AMAZON should be ashamed of themselves as I got the link for this company from Amazon.
I have threatened them with trading standards and everything and still no refund. I have now passed this matter to my bank to pursue.
Whatever you do please ignore any good reviews on this site as they are probably scam posts by a member of staff or similar. Take my advice if you wish to keep your sanity and please do not order anything from this company.
  • There are so many bad reviews about this company I was so scared after I booked it not knowing it was in hk.

Everything turned up on time, early actually and all was as expected. No import charges or anything else and I saved £300.

    Use them. Don't be scared.

And of course, you have nothing whatever to do with the company, do you. You just joined MSE especially to tell us how good they are, didn't you?

What exactly did you order that saved you £300 and had no import charges? A container of tea bags?

  • I realise that any vaguely positive comment is likely to be taken to mean that I work for or have some connection with Simply Electronics - but I really don't!
I'm just one of those foolish people who did not look carefully enough before ordering something from this company. I'm just posting this to say that buying from this company doesn't always end in disaster so might give some hope to anyone who is waiting for an order to come through.
I ordered a LG G Pad tablet mid-January. Had trouble paying with my MasterCard through Skrill so ended up using a Visa card with no problem. I thought that a bit odd but didn't worry too much until the following day when I had a phone call from the MasterCard company to say that they were suspicious of my two attempts to use the card and wanted to check they were genuine. They told me that their system refused the payment because of their experience of Skrill and fraudulent use of cards (so there may be a warning about Skrill there as well as SE). That then prompted me to find out a bit more about SE and got me to this forum. (I have subscribed to the MSE newsletter for some time and looked at the forum but never had anything to post until now.)
Anyway, I did get a mail from Skrill confirming the payment but nothing from SE. I created an account and then kept monitoring the order on their website through the normal rather odd and slow process of moving through to it being dispatched - still no mail from SE at all but I tried to stay calm and thought there was probably no point in contacting them anyway.
I have to say that the delivery process through DPD was very efficient and I eventually got the tablet yesterday - just signed for it, no other charges. The box does say Hong Kong edition and I did panic a bit when I switched the tablet on and was confronted by a menu in Chinese for initial set up but that was just 'Select Language' and I quickly got to English.
It seems to be working fine.Yes, of course I will have problems with the warranty if anything goes wrong with it but if anyone is in the same position as me this post may reassure that if you are patient you may be OK.
However, don't take this as a positive review of the company. I'm not going to buy from SE again and their website certainly is misleading in terms of where the company is located and how it operates and communication with its customers is very poor. Caveat emptor!!
  • I have used Simply Electronics twice, a Canon lens in 2010 and a Canon Powershot S110, which arrived yesterday.

I bought on both occasions knowing that the company is from Hong Kong and that delivery would be slow. the camera took three weeks to arrive but it was £20 cheaper than anywhere else. No issues with the battery charger which came with a UK plug.

Would I purchase from them if it were a Christmas gift or needed something quickly? No, I wouldn't. But if you don't mind waiting (and can ignore the BS delivery times on their website) you can get a good deal.
  • I have signed up to mse just to post on this thread, i have been reading all these posts since ordering from simply electronics on the 6th feb like most people on here i panicked when i saw other people's warnings. My dad reccomended simply electronics when i was looking to buy a new canon camera lens, and he has boought two lenses from them with no problem, but obviously when i read the reviews of the site i was questioning listening to him!

It seems to me from what i have read, the worst thing you can do is cancel your order, as people don't have any success at getting a refund. Contacting your credit/debit card company seems to be the best option, if you have a problem with non delivery.

I waited 10 working days, and when no camera lens arrived, i emailed them saying they had another week and if it wasn't here then i would be contacting my bank for a refund. Anyway, i got a reply within ten minutes saying my order status had been updated. 3 days later and it says it has now been dispatched from the netherlands and should be here within 3 days.

So i think if you're looking to save money, and youre not in a rush then simply electronics is fine. But i wouldn't advice ordering a camera or anything with a charger as it seems some people have recieved japanese versions that dont work in the uk. Hope this helps anyone that has ordered and is now panicking! I don't think the amount of people cancelling orders helps the delays either...
