Well my little machine has had it :(, I did buy it cheap online but was told today by a repairman that it would cost more to repair than the machine originally cost me.

Anyway husband will let me buy a new one :jwith a budget of about £500 :D does anyone have any recommendations?

It would be used for various home furnishings and some quilting. I have seen a Juki HZL-E61 which looked good but don't really know much about the Juki brand.

Hi hippychick, there is a sewing machine advice/help thread on this forum that might help :D

There are some good recommendations on there.

I have just brought a new machine from Tesco Direct.

That quilt is fab, it would be lovely for a little one to roll about on, on the floor.

Dont be scared to make something, start small and get used to your machine then to can move on tackle something special. You will quickly get used to it and proably get addicted to making stuff! Remember to get some photos and share them with us on here.

I love the bag Zombiecazz, very clever :)

I thought I would tell you all about these fab t-towels I found in the Home Bargain store, they are 3 for £1.49 (i cann't add a pic ?).
One pack has cupcakes on a creamy back ground (all over) and one has cupcakes on the hem and creamy colour, the 3rd is baby pink with creamy dots.
The other pack I got is baby pink with larger white dots, flowery (pinks, yelow and brown on a cream back ground and a nother the same but on a brown back ground. They are 100% cotton. They remind me of 70's fabric lol.

The 2 with cupcakes on are going to be put up for my DIL, as she is a brill cake cook, to make a baking hamper for her.

I think I will be making a bag with one maybe 2 lol, and a crochet hook roll with the other.

I have to finish my curtains 1st lol. Oh and my rabbit I started crocheting :)
I wish I could get a pic to show you all.

That quilt is gorgeous! I'm with you - seriously lacking in confidence when it comes to these machines. Am going to spend the weekend getting to know the one I have here. (Thank you Chris :))

My pleasure, have you had a play with it yet? I haven't touched mine for weeks, although I've got 3 quilts on the go.

The butterfly quilt is gorgeous, but as a learner myself this time last year, if you've never made a quilt before it's best to start with a simple, basic one, like all squares. I know that if I had started one like the butterfly, I'd be fine as long as it all went together swimmingly, but as soon as I hit a problem I would have thrown it in a cupboard and never gone back to it!

Take your time and have a practice sewing squares together, maybe just make a cushion cover to start with. I started off this time last year with every intention of making my first quilt a king-sized one! I've now downsized it to a single bed size and that's taken me a year to piece that! (mind you, I have started others in between, and done other crafts).

So, have a practice first, and then show us the gorgeous finished butterly quilt maybe in the summer!

Alimarcle - Thank you! so much for finding me the card "Easter" eggs. They are just what I am looking for.
I wanted some to cover in fabric, like in the "Springtime" book, so they didn't have to be patterened, but am just so pleased you have found some. :j:j:j
Will post my efforts if they work out.

You're welcome! Can't wait to see them Moonpenny!
Think I may get some myself as I love your idea!:D

I will agree with you loopychiss, I so wanted to do a full size patchwork quilt when I saw what my mum's friend had done but when I looked into it I decided to just do a large cushion cover and Im glad I did lol.
I have never done one before it is much more rewarding to see small projects come together than starting something big and getting dishartened cause I couldnt finissh it (and its a good way to get confidence in your sewing).

I will post a pic when its done lol, just the backs to put on it :)

To those quilters amongst us... there must be more to quilting than meets the eye... I mean... it looks so simple!
I have OOOOOODLES of clothes that have minor damage or just don't fit me anymore - worthless secondhand as nothing posh branded but I can't bring myself to just freecycle it all... And some of the baby clothes from my daughter I just can bear to give up :)
Could i just cut it all into similar size squares, sew it up and put a backing on it and Fred's your aunt?

  • Thank you for all your lovely comments about my angels and I love the idea of using them without wings for other projects. I also have a quilt on the go at the moment made up of 4"squares which does take a bit of time to do. I'm not really sure how big Im doing it or even how Im going to finish it but Im sure I will work it out before long lol. I will post a pic once ive charged my camera.
