Well there's no point arguing with you if you've worked door to door then is there because no doubt you will be an authority on absolutely everything won't you?

i agree i think the rude customers were more frustrating for me rather than those that just said nicely "look mate i aint intrested" but when somone tells you too !!!! off before youve opened your mouth is totaly unacceptable

i can sees peoples point of view of yes its my home etc but it's not illegal to do dtd sales and it seems to be the most best way of large companies getting business and not just cause some little scroats diddled old ladies

as ive said if i walked into your worplace and told you to fook of you wouldnt be best pleased

No I'd !!!! you and call the police and have you done for breaking and entering I work from home, another reason why doorsteppers plss me off.

not at all i just know what it feels like i also know what it feels like to be disturbed by "did you know we could help you wipe out your credit card debts" etc

i just think people need to be a little more understanding

and im no way saying sin up to every dtd salesman or invite him in for a cup of tea im just saying smile and say not to night thanks most will get the hint and move on to next door i know you get the few who think there the mighty lord and satrt being pushy and trying to force there way in and i totally agree thats wrong and perhaps they deserve to be told to fook off but its still doesent make it ok

Has anyone had charities knocking at their door? I've had 2 different charities wanting me to sign up to pay 3 quid or whatever a month. Firstly I thought it was illegal for them to ask for money, and second why on earth would I give them my bank details at the doorstep?!

  • Maybe I'm a bit too cynical or watch far too much Crimewatch but I NEVER let anyone in my home as you can never be too sure that they are genuine anyway?!!

Religious callers are the worst, when I tell them I'm an atheist, they keep trying to preach more about their god. next time I think I will scrawl 666 on my forehead when I open the door to them ;-)

Do what my neighbour used to do... call out to the kids "Bring me my broom kids!!!" and start doing what looks like spellcasting at any JWs that turn up at your door - we had great fun with that one summer when they seemed particularly persistent ;)

Personally I am quite happy to discuss religion with them on the doorstep - I never let them in - but I'll point out a few vital flaws in their belief system. I know them very well as my dads 3rd wife was JW... Let's suffice to say there are no love lost between her and me :)

jamespir - I've done door to door - it was survey work and for the council and I found nearly everyone were friendly enough when opening their doors. If they said no I simply said no problem, have a nice day!
I had I think in 4 weeks a total of maybe half a dozen slam their doors on me... :)
Maybe people are less suspicious of 18 year old smartly dressed girls with a clipboard though :D

We just had someone come to the door from 'Talktalk' apparently. I wasnt paying much attention until my partner invited the person in as he had told my partner that we could qualify for free broadband and he needed to check our line.

Now, firstly my partner is usually the one that is super vigilant about security and secondly we are on a contract with BT for another 12 months so I didnt see the point of someone 'checking our line'.

We are very unhappy with BT at the moment so my partner believed the salesman who told him that talktalk could talk BT into relinquishing the contract.

I said this was nonsense (this is all in front of the salesman) and said NO THANK YOU, CAN YOU LEAVE, leaving my partner apologising profusely to the salesman.

A row has therefore broken out between us with me wondering what on earth has gone to his head that he invites what I call a charletan into the home to 'check our line'.

Am I being overly suspicious, my partner reckons that 'a big company like talktalk isnt going to rip people off or promise stuff they cant deliver'

My feeling is that all companies are going to rip you off given half a chance and that no way can another internet provider promise to get your out of a contract you have with another ISP

    What do you think.

To answer your question, no I wouldn't let any door to door saleman or woman for that matter into my home. This is because I live alone with my dd and also because once they are in your house, it's so much more difficult to get them out.

But I am also interested in your story because I had a couple of women supposedly from Carphone warehouse knocking on my door a couple of weeks ago, promising the same thing i.e free broadband. I was quite put out to start with because I live in a block of flats with an intercom system so assumed it would be a neighbour at the door. I told them I had a contract with BT, and they said they were looking for people locked in contract with BT. They were quite insistant and I had to get rude to get them off my doorstep.

I don't know whether they were genuine or not, but it doesn't make me want to use Carphone warehouse if the use those techniques!

I have a rule: if I need something I'll go and look for it, but I won't buy from people who are trying to sell door to door or on the telephone.

I agree with most of this thread but I make an exception with genuine market researchers.
