Question - do you let door to door salesmen in?

My advice? Get a semi large dog that barks A LOT
When I say no they tend to leave sharpish
Maybe aided by me holding on to her collar and her being up on her hind legs?
At this point maybe I should add that I can actually get her to drop down, sit, shut up or go to her bed by voice command if I wanted her to - I just choose not to if it's someone going door to door unless in their first breath they can give me a reason to be interested. Selling me something does NOT qualify!
Amusingly the electric peeps came out to read the meter not long ago when I was about to take her for a walk and when they looked up from the meter on the otherside of a low wall next to my front door they looked straight into a nice full set of gnashers... Once he'd identified himslef I just told her to drop and she did and promptly ignored him - think he needed a new set of undies though bless him... because I was there she never barked once so he had no idea she was there or coming out :rotfl:DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! I use to tell them politely "no thank you" but they never took no notice of it, so now I have a more appropriate method, just open the door ajar enough for them to see my dog, unbeliveable how fast they move to the bottom of the garden path :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0

I live in an area where there are plenty of bright yellow council signs displayed to deter door to door sales.
I was in a real rush one Friday evening earlier this month, when I was met with an urgent thumping at the door. Stupidly thinking it was someone else I did answer it and was absolutley furious to see an EDF rep at the door - hardly an emergency worth beating the door down for! I just said I don't have time for this before closing the door, not polite I know but I was angry that this guy persisted when the house appeared to be in darkness.
It was on my way out that I noticed the sign in our street had been liberated from it's lamp-post...Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

I look forward to one of the uninvited nuisances taking me to court.Replies to posts are always welcome, If I have made a mistake in the post, I am human, tell me nicely and it will be corrected. If your reply cannot be nice, has an underlying issue, or you believe that you are God, please post in another forum. Thank you0

i will say no thanks and either hang up or shut the door, they always try and draw you into conversation. I do have a sign but people still knock. Another thing to watch out for is people claiming they want to read the meter and then trying to get you to change supplier, once they are in the house its hard to get rid. I now say i don't let strangers in but i will shout out the meter reading.0

Mrs Tine, you beat me to it :T That is exactly what I do. They usually ask "does he bite" to which I reply oh yes, if I tell him to...0

Joke aside, they are very annoying. I don't mind those who introduce themselves properly, show ID, and most importantly speak normally (meaning at a tone you can actually understand). And when told no they leave. But those are very few and far between. Usually it's those who do not let you get a word in edgeways, speak so fast like they are at a tongue twister competition, and most annoyingly wedge their foot in the door, and than shout obsenities as they leave. Hence the dog strategy :rolleyes:0

I just used to tell them I am not the bill payer - but unfortunately they all ask now when the bill payer will be home. have taken to telling them 'when he gets out' if they persist, he beat up a cold caller and got ten months as the judge was peed off with them too.0
