I can never see the point of being rude to call callers when a simple 'thank you for calling on me, no thank you, goodbye' followed by shutting the door is effective.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

    Been there done that myself:o

Apologise for going a bit OTT, give him a cuddle and enjoy the rest of your evening.
Its not worth arguing over ;)

As for Door to door people, I tend to lie..... Double Glazing/Tarmac/Extensions? My husband is a builder! Energy supplier? My husband works for whichever company knocks' rival. If all else fails, its not my home or the owners are out :)

i may have knocked on your door lol :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Replies to posts are always welcome, If I have made a mistake in the post, I am human, tell me nicely and it will be corrected. If your reply cannot be nice, has an underlying issue, or you believe that you are God, please post in another forum. Thank you
  • I got caught by a 'guttering' salesman when I was in the garden - so couldn't shut the door!
After telling him three times that I was not interested I told him to get off my property.
At that point he suggested I should go to anger management classes. TBH I was beginning to feel very uncomfortable and hoping one of my neighbours would appear.

Sorry but I do not like door-to-door salesmen. If I want something I will investigate then decide.

I rarely answer the door unless i`m expecting someone. If i`m curious i run upstairs and look through the window to see who is calling.

If i`m not sure who it is i open the side door and go out that way, this way i`m behind a locked gate and can speak to whoever is there - oh and i take the biggest of the doggies with me :D usually puts anyone off that i don`t want to speak to.

We used to have a sign up to deter cold callers but it didn`t make a difference at all.

We just tell them that " We do not do business at the door" and if they say that they have something to our advantage

We tell them that they have our address now so send it to us.

If you have unaddressed mail from the postman that you do not want then, pop it in the local postbox.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.
  • I've had salesmen trying to gain entry when my DD1 is home alone, turning up with no ID, trying to tell the Bloke that I have invited them to come back, that they have an appointment to confirm the bank details, blah, blah, blah, sticking their foot in the door, etc...

At best, they are trying it on to get commission.

At middling, they know you can't get out of a contract signed in your own house - heard of the elderly imprisoned for hours with bed salesmen?

At worst they are trying to get access for a robbery/sexual assault.

Never ever ever ever let someone in.

    Never.

My family know I would never ever do it, so they know not to do it themselves, and quite frankly, if your OH was so daft as to fall for their scams, he deserved to feel small. I bet he doesn't let anyone in again.

And as there is no way to know for certain if a man is genuine, a sex attacker or a genuine with a sideline in sex attacks, I will do whatever is necessary to ensure they do not remain on my doorstep. I will be polite and if that doesn't work, firm but polite. If they still persist, I will be firm. If that doesn't work, I will be blunt and if that doesn't work (or they are physically trying to force me to let them in, sticking their feet in the door) I will protect myself and call the police.

If they were to report it to the police, I would be quite clear that I felt myself to be in danger.

So far, only one has been told to $$%@ off. And he turned out to have a mate hanging around the back waiting for a chance to get in a balcony door. Luckily they got the door number wrong and they didn't get the vulnerable person living on the ground floor.
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

That's what I call being rude, as I don't wait for them to finish what they are saying before I say no thanks and shut the door. I've learned the hard way about being polite and trying to show interest.
